Hi Guys,

Just wondering, if you had a box stock Disco1, what would be the best single mod? Thinking Tyres, Suspension lift, etc....

btw, it is a 300tdi, and I'm looking to get into doing some greenlaning in Aberdeenshire.

All replies welcomed.

Cheers.

Don't know about lanes round here, just getting into all this, have been in contact with the BORDC (years ago)
Just got another Disco, and looking to use it for more than just towing and getting to work when it's snowing.

Thanks for all the fast replies guys,

Will chech in later once I get home, going out to deliver a mini digger to Buckie.

tyres, front and rear recovery points thats all you should need greenlaning:)

As well as them I'd have thought the best "mod" would be gaining driver experience from watching/going with a seasoned off-road driver....

don't need any mods when you're greenlaning apart from going out with people who know what they're doing and learning how to drive offroad properly.

I'd advise against getting new tires straight away. You need the vehicle to be as capable as you are. If you start on road tires and begin to learn yours and the vehicles boundaries, when (if - you're greenlaning remember, not offroading) you get stuck, you won't be stuck fast. As you progress, so then you should progress the agressiveness of your tires.

Recovery points are a good shout imo.

And a map.

And a thermos.

Driving up hills without the landowners permision is frowned upon clubs organise forest drives etc with various landowners. Forestry commision , hunting estates etc.

Trim the front Valence, add a steering guard with some recovery points; fit a farm hitch on the rear tow bracket as rear recovery point; buy maps, and lots and lots of fuel, 'cos if you wanna go green-laning, you gonna be driving to England, Scotland ent got none!

I've foond thes scottie translatur fur usin' when talkin' tae Big Bent Al an' th' other jockaneese fowk. aam huir uv a sorry, Ah didne realise thaur waur laws in JockLain an' thooght ye coods jist drife oan th' hills.

Oh blimey!!! Again????

Wouldn't it be good if this forum had a Search facility???

Maybe we ought to have "best single mod" (not you Ratty! :p ) and "basic rules of Laning" and "basic rules of off roading" stickies at the top of every board, cos it comes up at least once a month!!

evening grumpy
