P38 Motronic becm Immobiliser Fault

Hi All,

I had Immobiliser fault this week and Range rover P38 4.6 HSE "2000" would not start,
Just turn over, but No fuel or Spark (Controlled Non start)

Turns out becm lost sync with Engine ECU,
I bought the Sync mate tool and within 2 mins it was fixed,

This is used on Range Rover post "99" With Motronic System,
So if anyone gets stuck, for a small fee depending on location i may be able to help you out and save on expesive garage repairs,,

your not anywhere near county durham i suppose. where would i find a sync mate tool. im having the same problems with my 01 p38 petrol, it will crank but not start, had the guy out with the computer, immobiliser fault but the closest guy i can find wants to charge silly money.

any help appreciated

you get them from black box soultions you is a bit far from me.

well, that didnt quite work out as planned. said little black box arrived thismorning at 0730, 0745 was out in the snow attached little black box to the car, got a constant blue, then flashing green.

tried to start the car and it still wouldnt fire, so logical thought was to put the little black box back on the car, got a solid green.

im now getting a traction failure warning when i try to start it.
questions.
1 should i have waited for the flashing green to go solid
2 if so should i re attach the little black box and try again
3 does anybody have any ideas as to what else it could be.

green flashing light means your car is in sync. did you not get a user guide? solid green light becm is in sync. flashing green light becm is now synchronised. flashing red light com error. hope that helps you. is your bat topped up as this will keep putting it out.

iv topped the battery up and its been on charge for the last 4 hours, im gonna give it a couple more hours then try again, failing that some petrol and a match might fix it. :frusty:

put your box back on then turn your key to number 2 leave it to flash 7 times then start it. best of luck. dont forget to let us know how you get on

also dont forget about the eka and resyncing the key in the door (dunno if buddy box negates eka?)

usually the messages come up when the battery is toast or obviously theres a fault!

well ive put the battery back on, put the sync mate back on and im getting solid blue then solid green, the car will turn over but it still wont start, im also getting a caution and handbook symbol in the heater window dont know wether this is related.
am i just doing something wrong or do i need to get the guy with the computer back out.

i had to do the eka aswell to get past the alarm

have you reset the windows and sunroof

no how do i do that

open them to the bottom and then close them all in one move ment same with sunroof. then put the sync mate back in leave it in and try to start it

cool be back in 10 mins

nope, that didnt work , ive flattend the battery though.
i very much appreciate your help but it looks like im gonna have to bite the bullet and send it to a garage.

Hi I have posted this on another thread but some of your symptoms sound similar so it may be of use:

Hi I have had a similar no fuel problem i.e. all lights on turns over but no fuel. Took me a while but I think I have traced it to a bad connection on the ECU relay in the fuse box.
As soon as a wriggled it about the fuel started flowing.
I cleaned the connections which gave a repair and it performed faultlessly in the snow over xmas. It wouldn't start agin the other night and a quick wriggle of the relay sorted it outbut I have now fitted a new fuse box and relays.
Might be worth checking this.

ive got the batt on charge again, so where will i find the relay that you mention, sorry totally inept when it comes to this sort of stuff, show me an aerial or satellite dish and im fine.

Hi lift the lid of the underbonnet fuse box, its a black flat topped box on the offside wheelarch behind the battery. The lid has a diagram with the layout of fuses and relays. You are looking for the one with and engine symbol and elictrical arrow through it. AS you stand fcaing the fuse box with the roadwheel in fron of you ie from the drivers side the relay is on the back row nearest the engine and is I think the second in from the left. It is normally yellow unless its been replaced with a non gen one at some stage. Pull it out carefully, make sure its not melted itself in and check the terminals are clean then put it back.
Also worth checking the fuel pump relay which is again yellow at the front end of the box marked with a fuel pump symbol on the diagram in the lid.
Its also worth pulling the ecu fuse, I think its number 39 red 10A and checking contacts there.

right ive checked all mentiond relays and fuses, all seem to be fine, however there are three large green 60 fuses on the engine side of the fuse box, none are broken but the prongs that press into the box look like they have been heated up( you know when you burn metal with a lighter) dont know wether this has any bearing or not. im just waiting for someone to give me a hand putting the batt back on(being a good samaritan causes broken ribs) and then ill let you's know how im getting on
