well guys, update: got the Range to the dealer and Testbook/T4 later nothing happens, car still wont start...

3 hours later I receive a call: this time its the in tank fuel pump... now you've guessed it, the part costs £175 but I wont even tell you how much is the job... labour intensive they say.

I'm really losing faith in the car, when I thought I could get near to solve a BECM problem then another one arises...

Been in touch with callrova today, I am booking a thorough examination of the BECM and the rest of most sensitive areas of the car as I had enough of surprises. Its like the car is falling apart... since December I already spent thousands in this car, head gasket, EAS sensors, all sorts of pipes leaking, window mechanisms, transfer box, etc etc... and the damn labour charges are always more money than the parts...

an ex from the dealer:
1. Supply and fit new engine cam cover seal.
2. Supply and fit diesel spill pipes.
3. Supply and fit new gear box oil cooler pipes.

Price comes to £640 not inc VAT

they must be taking the meek right?!!

I will report back.

thanks

tell em to fook right off and either do it yourself,or take it to an independant garage, simple fixes really.

exactly.

sometimes its a good idea to tell em beforehand, that wotever they find - they wont get the job - that way they have nothing to gain my mis-representing faults ;).

right, I agree, I know this is extortionate but then I am to blame... it is my lifestyle... I travel a lot, dont have much time to look around for an alternative and I have no mechanical skills whatsoever... and what do I do when the car is not running ?! I guess they have to sort the problem now because my other option is to get it towed to somebody else...

thats why I have posted a new thread asking for advice on London independent Range Rover specialists... I know I have to get these jobs done cheaper.

thanks guys, I will report back on the Becm issue.

best

try yell .com and put in the details on there for an independant l/rover garage.

When you first called out the AA did they not come to any of these conclusions. I've called them out a couple of times to my RR and have found them to be quite knowledgeable about the P38 (probably coz they get called out to so many!!)

Regarding an Independant. Not sure how far Sittingbourne is from you but a friend of a friend recommends Stuart Gilbert Landrovers (01795 843116). Never used them myself so can't 100% them, but they come with good reports.

AA was even a previous owner of a P38! but all he did was check the fuses, redo the EKA code procedure and voila... nothing.

Today my dealer is telling me the in-tank fuel pump was changed but the car is still not behaving as before... which means its probably not the fuel pump causing the problem anyway!

called callrova.com in Brighton and the guys tell me the dealer should stop messing with my car and get the BECM and ECU taken out and sent to them so they can analyse what is causing the problems I am getting, that the BECM controls the fuel pump and the problem is the BECM not the pump, it shuts the fuel pump down when it's working incorrectly.

Thats what i have done now, I will send them the boxes tomorrow and report back..

what a frickin' nightmare.

i will report back.

thanks fortgrange for the contact, its like 1 hours drive from me, not too far, will check em out when I am done with this trouble...

Hi guys, update:

I didnt send the BECM and ECU to Callrova because I needed the car, drove some 100 miles on it, all good. Still when starting the engine I need to crank it for a few more seconds than before.

Dreading the possibility of finding a flat battery the morning after, I took it to a recommendation I had today from a cab driver who owns a P38: Quadratech near Brixton, for a second opinion. (I like it when you go to a garage and you see a few P38's for service, not really at my official dealer where all you see is new shapes and jags).
Before paying them a visit I stopped to buy the latest RF receiver (from Autopost near Wimbledon) which they thought it was the best move I should've done.

I am getting the car tomorrow, lets see what they say.

Will report back, I miss driving my Rangie... its been a week now.

cheers

hi guys, the RF received was 158,00 and it was installed today. Quadratech found out that the starting problem was due to the glow plugs, so we replaced the 6 of them and the car is now starting perfectly.
Still no update on the flat battery though... they couldnt find a reason for this as everything seems fine with the rangie. It is possible that after T4/TESTBOOK and resetting of the BECM + new RF the car will be ok. Will check in the following mornings, if everything is fine. .... Just of writing about this now made me go out and start the car, all good... if the car starts well, and doesnt give me a flat battery in the future then its definitely down to the new RF!

will report back.

best rgds,
