Any ideas please!!
I've finally got my ignition sorted on my V8 3.9, had been misfiring and running rough. Took the disco to France for a family holiday and for the last couple of days there has been this horrendous noise which sounds like it's coming from underneath. It's just as bad at tickover in neutral, seems to be engine speed related. Doesn't sound like main bearings, too metallic.
Could it be exhaust cat? Got back last night off ferry (fortunately we live quite close to Newhaven) and the noise is horrible.
I wonder if the time it was run with an ignition misfire has damaged the cat converter, or am I on the wrong track completely?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated
Cheers
Terry

Hi All

Took the car to local Land Rover Indy specialist. Verdict is that the cats are gone, probably as a result of the persistent misfire allowing fuel to reach burn in the cats. Any way the heads are also gone so given that the car has 6 months MOT left and the noise won't get any worse!! I'll leave it until then and scrap it.
Unless anyone has any ideas, non cat exhaust?

Regards and thanks for the help so far.
