I put one of these EGR Blanking valves on which i purched from E Bay Works great no more sludge bloking every thing up.
Put the freelander in for MOT today Failed due to the mod.
I never said a word about the mod but it was one of the first thing the B looked for.
Anybody had this problem???
Steve.

What's the wording on the fail sheet?

I've just had my Disco fail an MOT for something different and that's had the egr removed, the cat removed and centre silencer replaced with straight through ... and the emmissions were cleaner than last MOT when they were all fitted!

Sounds like the tester is being a bit pedantic. The diesel emissions test is only concerned with the density of the exhaust smoke and the equipment used currently has no facility to measure NOX output from the engine (reduction of which is one of the purposes of the EGR valve).
Because of the possibility of 'Jobsworths' such as this I took the decision not to use EGR bypass units but rather grind out the internal components of the valve thereby leaving the EGR valve normal in external appearance.

You could appeal against the fail but personally I'd take the Land Rover somewhere else preferably a small busy workshop where they have better things to do than poking around looking for mods.

Hi there
On the MOT failed ticket. " Illelegal exhaust gas recirculation system fitted" thats all.

But saying that went today to small garage workshop mot you just have to wait in line PASSED NO PROBLEM when i asked about emissions he said "Best he had seen for a long time on one of these Mate". I cannot work it. Just do not understand at all .

Others may be able to correct me but I don't think as yet, that there is anything within the scope of the MOT test to inspect the operation of EGR. The wording makes it sound like a made up reason for failure.
As i say I may be wrong but it does seem like the tester is just being a tw@t!

he's a stoopid cnut . . . . . . . .every wun who uses this ear forum knows the e g r is an Engineering folly , and the blank mod actually improves it    Bastid    i'm orft ta pub :) :) :)

I saw my mate who is an mot tester ,in the pub last night and he said the guy was wrong, as long as the emissions are within spec its nothing to do with him what is or is not fitted to the engine and he should have given you a readout to prove the emissions failed:mad:

That makes sense.

Bizarre that a tester would go looking for an EGR blank unless he was a member of the Green Party:rolleyes:
