Hi there,

Firstly, what a great fountain of knowledge this site is!

I've just bought a 200Tdi Discovery, I'm having a lot of fun driving it although she does need some TLC. My plans are to lift her right up.
2" in the springs and again in the body and fit 265/75R16 tyres which I think are a good compromise for most offroading work. I also will fit a snorkle, winch bumpers, rock/tree sliders and of-course all the diff/steering guards.

Are there many members in W. Sussex near Chichester? Would be great to get some tips and local knowledge on the best people for rust repairs etc.

All the best and happy offroading!
Mat

welcome to the loonybin..

but erm.. why you gonna lift her up then - what are you trying to achieve? there are loads of issues with both spring and body lifts so worth doing some research first.. and if you do it be prepared to spend oodles of cash getting it right or oodles and oodles of cash fixing things that break when you get it wrong..

Hi all,

I'm going to left her up as I want to do some proper offroading, I used to have a Disco V8 in New Zealand which I extensively modified and used for expeditions. I must say I never had any issues with lifting it. Handled well and only needed extended brake lines, removal of antiroll bars and panhard rod (I put in an adjustable one). I need to replace the springs/shocks on my current disco anyway as the rears are sagging so thought it better to be in for a pound rather than a penny.

My only problems so far are my ability (or lack thereof) to weld, I've been patching up the sills for now in order to get through the MOT however I am not happy with patchwork repairs and have been reading that people replace the whole sill with 100x60mm box section? It certainly seems like a good idea and I imagine very strong.

More welding practice I think before I tackle that though! (or pay for it to be done properly) ;-)

Cheerio,
Mat

Mat, what a pity that you didn't join the forum earlier......SCOR have just had an RTV at Core4x4, just down the road from you :) It would be a great way to met some local off-roaders.

If you are interested in getting door sill welding done then I am only the other side of the New Forest from you.

PM me if you want to discuss without upsetting the mods :)

And welcome to the 'Zone :welcome2:
