can any one help with running problems on an 83 v8? pull the choke out, crank her over and she runs sweet as a nut, get her warm, let the choke in and she just coughs and splutters all over the place. this car was found in a barn and after a new battery and a couple of gallons of petrol she started up fine. absoluteley mint car apart from this running problem. she has only covered 40,000 miles. ive changed the plugs, leads, fuel filter, replaced the tubes that were slightly perissed. the timing is fine as are the points. can anyone point me in another direction before it hits the local garage. thanks in advance for any help

thanks. the vacuum advance seems fine but im a little confused as to why there are 2 outlets on it. i have 2 k+n's for it so i will only use the front one i pressume and disconnect the back one and block it. if its carbs then i shall not bother, garage can have her

Vac advance should have one pipe going into it, the other "outlet" will be a vent.

As for carbs, get a manual and that should show you how to strip them down. I suppose you could always try squirting carb cleaner into them with the engine running but be sure to pick up the revs first.

thanks for all your help. turned out to be carb diaphrams. im after a bit of help with the egr thats fitted. can any one tell me the best person on here to ask?

Just ask!
Usual prob with the EGR is the pipes rust.
Doesn't actually DO very much, so most just pulled them off and blanked them up!
When I rebuilt my carb-motor, I made up new EGR pipes and fitted them up with new rubber hoses and flame traps..... Craddocs had them on offer at the time, think it cost me a fiver and thought 'why not'!

What's the problem?
