hi all , p38 4.0 petrol auto box, went out this morn the **** won't start.? ign lights all on no faults on dash wont turn over not even trying, moved auto shifter still no change . put new batt in 2 weeks ago and tried jump start still no good. also tried key code to no avail ,any help please

hi bms,no it did not turn over with or without jump from a rev ed van, and when i put the leads on i had no sparks which i have noticed on over cars,ps there's not even a click from solenoid.

your battery is completey knackered then if it wont take a jump just becos it 2wk old dont mean it good.{ i brought 1 once took it back same day as it was well xucked}. or ya leads are not sitted properly, or live feed to starter needs attention.

What year is the P38 - sounds more like the BeCM/Engine ECU security code problem.

Does the check engine light show during ignition??

-Wills :)

no just the normal stuff on the dash , i did wonder about the switch on gear box or some were, the park natural one don't know wot its called so cant use the search ,sorry been a real bad day.

no don't show , its 95/96 isn't that in the warning panel ,when i said the normal lights were on i meant norm ign lights, now I'm really confused think i mite go out there face to bonnet and tell it wot i think of it,the rangy that is ,probably get a better conversation out there any way, shes giving me a right hard time,:boink:

ok, if the light shown in the red square doesn't appear when the ignition is turned to the 2nd stage...

...then you wont get it started. The BeCM and engine ECU have fallen out and lost their security synch. You need to plug it into a computer to get a Security Re-Learn done and it should then fire up.

When you came out this morning did the battery seem low/almost flat - were the dash lights dim at all?? This problem is usually caused by a battery slowly draining.

thanks wills, just had a look the light in box is not on ,is this a garage job?but on the brite side i now know were the check engine light is .

Its a job for someone with a diagnostic computer such as a Rovacom/Autologic/Faultmate/Testbook. Where abouts are you, some people are mobile and can come out to you and reset it or you need to get the vehicle to a garage if nobody is near you who can come out and do it.

-Wills :)

sorry wills for late reply, been out chasing work with no joy so if anyone needs a carpenter let me know sorry cant help it,anyway i live nr holsworthy Devon ,not had a chance to look at rr ,so anyone with the diagnostic to reset her please get in touch asap with a price if poss ,i have found one but they want to take to there garage to put it right with no price just o we will get it going, and so will i in the end

hmmm, Im up in Northampton im afraid so don't know anybody in your area, there are other members on here though from down your way, Im sure someone will pipe up soon with a suggestion.

Did you tell the garage you knew what was wrong and what exactly you needed doing?? Maybe they just thought you wern't clued up on what was wrong and were planning on emptying ur wallet??

-Wills :)

hi wills,to be honest they asked were i got info from and then laughed so end of conversation.but i have a man coming late Wednesday with all the gear and nohow to set her up so will let you now.

tell em to laugh all they like. id give em t finga cheeky bastards. with this website and everybodys help the dealer can swivel, lets hope you get it sorted wed.

Good on yer Brutus and MHM. There's too many "Experts" and Smartarses out there who have never owned a P38 and are ready to cash in on poor sods who are desperate for a fix. The people on here have bust the wallet and cried the tears. Despite the p**staking, it's the best forum around and full of information.

tut - what bastids - still, your the one with the ££ and you have decided to go to someone else so they have lost out on making any money at all from you!

Let us know how it goes.

-Wills :)
