This is my 1996 P38 DSE moments after a low flying sports car came onto my side of the road and hit me at an angle with the rear o/s wheel taking the impact. Apart from the cosmetics, the suspension, axle and propshaft will need some attention.

Pre-accident it was 77k miles with full LR stealer history and drove as tight as a drum without fault.

Question is, should I buy the salvage and get it repaired? Engineer from the insurance co estimated £4k just for parts, but I know this is full retail brand new main dealer parts and that 2nd hand spares will do the job.

I live on the London/Hertfordshire border just North of Enfield. My usual mechanic is OK with service stuff, but has declared himself out of the heavy work on my cars so won't help me with this.

To buy or not to buy - that is the question.

if you buy it back and repair it a cat c has to be inspectedso has to be done right, buy it n strip it.

you said it was tight as a drum with no faults pre accident mate! thats unheard of when talking about p38's. buy it back and get the rare faultless rangie rolling again. you know your only going to buy one riddled with all the usual gremlins, thats just sods law mate!

Everything worked. It was an old boys pride & joy and he clearly cherished it. Strange that the best 2nd hand car I've ever owned turned out to be a P38 of all cars. Just my luck. Waiting for a price from the insurers and will take it from there.

mine is a repaired cat c, not to bad, front wing, headlight, airbox, small bonnet repair, criminal it made cat c really. it wasnt registered as this with dvla though, and didnt have to be, up to the insurance company to tell them if they think they need to, so i didnt need to have a d-o-t check done.
