hi all,

looked through the post for this and couldnt find an answer so thought i'd straight out ask the question...

My freelander wont start, 2000, 1.8 petrol, Has fuel, battery is fine, had recovery out today and they couldnt get it started either. It turns over fine, but just doesnt catch, mechanic said there is too much fuel going in, the plugs were drenched , he took them out and checked for a spark which was also fine, he said it might be the fuel injector system??

Any ideas? I live in west yorkshire, Mirfield, any good mechanics you can recommend around here, dont wanna be spending the earth.......

many thanks.

Err. Hmm.

This may or may not be relevant. Was it well and truly warmed up? Has it been using a lot of petrol?

i had similar on a peugout some years back. Turned out to be utterly failed water temperature sensor. So engine was on 'full choke' the whole time.

If it is this, once left overnight and fully cold, it will start. In my case the damned car would not run when fully hot under 3000 RPM, which got me black looks from the horse riders as I drove it home..

A bit of history if you can Fiona. When did it start behaving this way? Did anything change prior to the fault? Is the ecu firing engine in wrong sequence?

Hi thanks for replying Skynet,

As far as running previous to this incident, it has been running absolutely normal, fires up first time, hasnt ever let me down, always keep an eye on the expansion bottle, which has only ever needed very little topping up, It hasn't ever over heated. And i always make sure it has juice in the tank!.

So pretty confused, i am pretty competant mechanically, and after fitting some new plugs, all fuses are ok, checking my compression is ok, and seeing that there is fuel going in, and spraying a good few squirts of easy start with still no joy, im baffled......

cheers for all the constructive help.

Fiona you may need a dealership to check the codes as recovery guys only have a basic version (RAC guy admitted this)... you have a squirt, you got a spark, compression is good...... the only thing I would be wondering on my pre-ecu car is the timing being off for all 3 together
