fiddling with car today and i have notice the pressure has gone up in the water system, when i take the small pipe off the rad, water comes from the pipe but not the rad. it seams water is not circulating the rad. reckon its thermostat?

any checks i need to do before i go stark raving mad with it???

if not stat, is there any other reason why water would not come out of top of rad???

its not blocked and a bit of water comes out but only a tiny amount!

once a rad is hot and under pressure when you remove the cap it will **** out bloody hot. if yours is not doin so then yes check stat is not jammed shut and your water pump is working correctly. it been known for the finns inside the water pump to break of or flak of and not pump quicker enough. could be that. tho the best is go down the mot garage and get the rad pressurised.and how do you know the rad not blocked?

there's no 'cap' on rad only a small capillary. it is ****ing out of header tho when cap released

would explain the slight knock i hear from time to time, any test for this or is it a strip down job? might aswell do H/gaskets at same time???

it wasn't blocked 2 months ago and was a good stream of water coming out. i meant the capillary in the post as i have pushed a screwdriver in it but i'm confident its not blocked rad(hopefully) the top pipe does get hot, and there is heat in the rad, although not too hot to touch does this mean owt???

also putting hand under exhaust and getting some water, kind of like condensation. does this mean HG failure?

not always my engine has been rebuilt and has no issues at all and i get condensation from the exhaust, non when it,s warm but a bit when it has been started from cold,a good way to test the water pump is usually with the engine running as it,s warming up squeeze the top hose as you gently relase you should feel a surge of coolant running through the pipe;)

a way for checking for a slipped liner apparantly, after a long run out let the engine cool if the top hose looks mishaped i squeezed look then ther could possibly be a problem, but also undo the expansion tank top when the engine is cold and see if any pressure is released this is only a guide it can be the same symptoms for a failing hg

re ****ty christmas, mines off the road as the plastic bits in the brake modulator are about to fall to pieces. I sympathize it's a ****ty time of year to happen

Looks like we both have the same ****ty Christmas problems with our P38`s! Is it the time of year?

What`s the betting yours is W reg, in dark blue with 74k on the clock?

You have my sympathy, mine wont even turn over now! (See transmission failure post)

Regards, Robin.

mines 1996 p and green with 170k on the clock, think i got the better end as its so old! if a block can last that long(i believe it hasn't been changed) that means at least one of the QA guys at landrover paid attention!! lol

been fiddling a bit more (also trying to set up leonardo ecu for lpg with zavolli valve if anyone has any ideas)although there is definatly a flow problem somewhere( i'm suspecting stat possibly causeing air lock/water expansion) i don't thing the liners have gone. i think it could be a problem on the gas valve.

i'm gonna get it tested after crimbo. its not overheating and temp guage is at normal so i conna eake it steady till the new year

Thank all for your help and suggestions

have a very merry landy christmas and new year!!

i've asked santa for a new range rover, i even offered to put him on the insurance! he's got me a big stately home in the Dorset countryside instead i think cos he said "you're getting the keys to **** HALL"

well its over heated today, lovely, i'll be stripping the stat out 2morra and see whats gone on!!

might have friedt block or gaskets, gonna get a comp test done before it does any more miles!!

Hey ****ty christmas all round.
Mine has just overheated AGAIN and i have changed absolutely everything only one thing left to do to it :violent:

well mine has been off the road for the last 4 months with low oil pressure problems. I have rebuilt the lump 5 times the first of which stood me in a obscene amount of readies and for what it still not to be right.

dont you love them.

hope you all have had a good crimbo.
