Does any one know the best stuff to use to de gunge a td4 inlet manifold got a spare one that is as bad as mine so leaving to soak is no problem.

Hi,
Fill it with traffic film remover, stuff they run through steam cleaners, leave for a few hours and a good hot pressure wash should do the job. Also coca cola is a good carbon remover (due to the high acid content) Or trip down to a local garage that has pay as you go pressure washers.
Nige

Paraffin is usually quite good, or look & see what companies like Frost etc. sell for use in parts washers tubs.

I USE SWAFEGA IF YOU LEAVE IT TA SOAK . . . .oops caps lock fingy on. . .or fer a quick de gunk white spirits every time :) :) :) its messy though :D :D :D

Thanks guys gonna go down the cola route. wil post how it works, if it dont work it will be from bucket back to bottle and the kids will love it.Well there is a credit crunch

update, Cola & power washed it, was still full of gunge. Oven cleaner & power wash more or less spotless. Its like driving a new fooking car! cant believe it and this engine had only done 28000 miles. The kids didnt want the coke after dont know why! thanks for all your advice.

Just bought an EGR bypass and removed the old EGR valve. Can not believe the amount of gunge in the old valve & especially the inlet manifold, cms thick.

Did you remove the inlet manifold to clean it, if so was this difficult? please can you let me know how you did it.

Thanks,

Hi Ming,

Changed all those bits also. Now I have the Inlet manifold off, using oven cleaner to clear the gunge. Already cleaned and HP Washed once, it is coming out, but giving it one more treatment.

Unbelievable the amount of sh... inside, and even in the actual inlets towards the injectors - but don't really want to touch that area.

What a great design!!!!!

Ming,

Got it back together, took about four goes with the oven cleaner to get it properly clean but I WOULD recommend this method of cleaning.

EGR bypass is now fitted. All is running smoother than ever, can't wait to go for a longer drive!

Thanks,

Jon.
