):D ;) ;)

Got me one ordered:)

Problem with this is it looks like it's the filter only & not the valve unit which can also block up. Duckworth will sell you the complete unit for £26 inc. postage.

Not sure if it can be ordered seperately, but suspect not. Try fitting just your filter & make sure there's no excess crankcase pressure (Apparently removing the dipstick with the engine running & seeing how far up the oil is forced is the test though I've never tried this). If all appears ok, leave it & replace the whole unit in 12k miles time. Best of luck.

great tip rusty, just had mine changed but next time i will certainly make sure i get new sort:) .......

Seems a bit tight to me that main stealers for LR are still flogging old type when they must know new one is available.... mind you maybe not knowing some dealers. Some struggle to understand plain english - no sorry sir you need a new engine because you have got a puncture mentality!

right moving on - gear box oil next and play hunt mtf94 or whatever it is!

Thanks for the info, but please can you tell me how to actually open up the old filter? I know the location but havent figured out how to open it.

Thanks,

Yes!

Presuming you have removed plastic top cover from engine and are now looking at the engine.

Remove the air cleaner housing. Take off oil filler cap and unscrew 4 x nuts with hex key. Two are obvious, two are at rear of engine and a real sod - stick your hand round you can feel them.

You should see wiring going to the glow plugs on each injector. Unscrew the screws holding the wiring bracket and position it to a side - no need to disconnect any wires.

Next (well on mine anyway) I had to remove the small return pipes on the top of the injectors infornt of the crankcase filter.

Use a small pair of pliers and pull the wire retaining clip out gently. Then pull the pipe fitting itself from top of the injectors. Some fuel will leak so get ready with a small cloth.

Unscrew retaining screws on crankcase filter housing and then lift housing and filter (contained in it) clear.

Open box with nice new part. Remove new rubber seals. Using pliers again pull out old seals and insert new!

And as they say refitting is reverse of removal!

TIP!!!!!!

Once you've got new assembly fitted then replace oil filler cap and run engine to check for leaks before you get all the crap you've taken off back on!

You can also clean out the EGR valve if you want whilst you have all those covers off but thats another story!
