Gonna check this in morning when engine cold then check again when heated up. sender is brand new but knowing my luck probably got a knackered one.
Something else is bugging me though. with all this starting engine up every now and again I now think something is up with water running through, not sure if its water pump or not, going to start a new thread on it .

This is how I have wires at the mo, its the only way the water gauge does not travel right up to red, But the bloody fuel gauge goes up to 3/4 full instead of half.

you have wired them in parallel which is incorrect and does not solve your problem (do you know the temp sensor part number ) you are condemning the water pump before proving that the gauge is working correctly
remember whilst the engine is static and the wings removed the cooling effect of the fan is greatly reduced but if the coolant system is not blowing the rad cap and spewing coolant out I would sort the gauge first
don't look for problems that are not present . you can check the coolant temperature with a thermometer it should be 88 C degrees on normal operation might be slightly higher with air temperature at the moment

If I wire them to where they were before the water sender just slowly goes straight up to top.
Will check sender today. It just does not seem to be pumping water round engine for some reason, Rad is very hot top and bottom.

Been hit by some kind of bug today, hoping it goes away, takes a lot to put me down but this thing has got me floored, cant stop bloody shaking, every part of my body aching.
Managed to have a quick go at testing sender this morning, not sure if this will make any sense or not but when Cold it was1162, ran it only for about 10 mins, rad got very hot top and bottom again , then it was 0.78
had to come back down trying to get rid of this bug.
 
So 1162 ohms cold and 780 hot should be around 300 at normal temp ( the hotter it get the lower the resistance ) but I thought the sender was a 560794 for the Series 2
I stand to be corrected there seem to be a lot of hit and miss with the new sender hope you get to feel better what with contending with all the Chinese crap part and feeling crap with Chinese viruses

like I mentioned before the sender was Nightmare to find where it went on engine, once the bolt was out had to get this to fit a sender as would not fit in the threads in block.

Will try my local landy shop tomorrow, they might have one in stock,
still not right yet will have to get the missis to call in for it. :(
 
Have you got or can loan a voltage stabiliser you can try out looking on the smith site they list their gauges as 10 volt https://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk/landrover/series-2-and-3 so may be worth trying
There is one of these on the old ambulance, 148876A - VOLTAGE STABILISER 10V NEG. EARTH JAG JENSEN LAND ROVER LOTUS MG OEM | eBay is that what you mean ? can try it if I can wire it up the right way.
gonna flush the heater matrix out too, as quite a few people say it could be an Air Lock in hoses.,

Only got the one my missus took My temperature with the other day :) which was 39.4, she recons it was way to high, but never mind its gone back to normal now.
gonna sneak up tonight and see if I have one of those voltage stabilisers, if not will order one.

Found these, I also have spare gauge from series 3 ,
I am certain that it did not have a stabiliser fitted Origional Though but can try one.
Will this be OK to test Temp ? Draper Infrared Thermometer | Toolstation
