Just got a pass with only couple of advisories:
  • Centre high level brake light not working.
  • Bottom front ball joint rubbers deteriorated.
He said joints were ok, so just do them while the weather is good !!

Was also good to see a tester that didn't go near the brake rollers, but got his Tapley tester out instead.

Another year on the books, great when they pass!
Most brake rollers run in opposite directions, which means little or no movement on the propshaft or vcu. Can be demonstrated by jacking up rear wheels and turning, the opposite wheel rotates the other way.
 
yep. Had a previous MOT idiot do roller handbrake test on my P38. He couldn't understand why the wheels kept moving, until I explained the centre propshaft handbrake !!
 
No. Minimum of two working brake lights. Same with rear view mirrors.
Technically if the light is fitted, then it must work, unless it's been disconnected.
It's obviously one of those grey areas, but many MOT testers I know and use would fail a high level brake light that isn't working.

Proving it's wired in without removal of panels is impossible.

  • Vehicles after 1971 must have minimum of 2 stop lamps.
  • Additional stop lamps, over and above the mandatory requirements, must be tested. However, if you are not sure if they are connected, you should give the benefit of the doubt.
  • (i) with a multiple light source up to 1/2 not functioning - Minor

I wonder what plod would make of this as they also use the construction & use act which differs from the mot regs as I understand it.

Around here, the Mr Plod can't be bothered to do anything.
It seems they're too happy hiding in gateways, hoping to catch speeders.
The number of vehicles I see driving about with directive lights or bald tyres is staggering.:eek:
