I was messing under the bonnet the other day and found this lurking behind the battery box. I can't see where the tube goes but clearly it didn't come from the factory like that. Can anyone identify it?

Looks like someone has done an EGR delete and that is the end of the vacuum tube to it, sealed off with a nut. A bigger picture would make me more sure of my idea!
Take the engine cover off and look where the EGR should be, it might still be there mind you!
It could have the exhaust pipe to it blanked off somewhere else.;)
EDIT maybe he shoved a bolt in the end of it, not a nut, sorry, that would be daft!

At last I've had a chance to look at this. We still have the builders with us but they are at the finishing off stage.

I took the engine cover off and found this so I'm guessing someone has just pulled the pipe off and blocked it off with the bolt. Is my best approach just to plug it back in (assuming the bolt hasn't stretched the pipe to much) or leave it as is? I'm not entirely sure about the pros and cons of this system.

Leave it as it is or bypass the whole thing for good with the proper kit.... this system has ZERO pro's for the engine but more that zero con's
