Hi I'm new to this site and pulling what hair I have left out !! I have chattering locks syndrome on my p38 2.5 diesel I've taken to
many electricians in North London it started around 18 months ago first I changed the interior light then the rear tailgate you pushed the release button made a noise like it was opening purchased another button (one of many) ok for around a week played up again another rear door activation switch ok for a week played up again phoned a lovely bloke at broadfields in Dunmow Essex he said it was more than likely front door mechanism so rang east coast range rover salvage mechanic fitted em two day later locks started chattering again back tailgate not working at all !!! Had a look on this site to some old Q&A someone wrote it could be the RF unit on to east coast RR one in the post as we speak I love this range rover but I'm getting a bit ****ed off now!! any ideas would be very much appreciated

If it's the early RF Receiver type, then yes that's probably the cause. Plenty of RF in London to cause issues. Chances are the microswitches in the front driver's door latch are bad as well, and these will impact the tailgate.

Unless the replacement receiver is the Mk3 version it will not help much. Short-term fix can be to disconnect the blue antenna wire, but that's not guaranteed to be 100% effective. After doing this the FOB has to be near the rear right window to work.

Chattering locks happens when exactly?
Mine only chattered when going along rough/potholed roads (ok...all the time then ) and was fixed by replacing the drivers door lock/switch assembly (through which all the current for the boot latches passes; which is why the microswitch goes "dodgy" AFAIK).
I changed out the drivers door lock switchpack and have not had a problem ever since.

Marty's door lock tests are posted on here somewhere. Also the 3 different types of receiver and the part number you need. Other less likely possibility is a lever in the door coming adrift, possibly from plastic clip disintergrating.

If you fitted a second hand door lock, it's likely the micro switches in that were also knackered
