Hi,
My name is Marius. I own a 2005 Freelander td4 with jatco gearbox. The car drives normal for 5 minutes (first engine start). After that the car only drives in reverse. When I put the car in drive the engine is revving but the car won’t move forward. No gearbox errors stored. Also the solenoid measures are in range. Sorry for my bad english.
Thank you

Interesting, no reverse is more common!!

Mine was a high clutch / reverse piston crack which allowed flare on 3rd to 4th and slip in 4th.
Yours sounds more serious!! Does it drive in any gear if you select 1,2 or 4??

Need to find a common drive element for all forward gears. Will have a look at my diagrams but I am guessing an exchange gearbox may be the way forward having eliminated any selector failures. Have you checked the shift lever actually operates the lever on the bottom of the gearbox??

The car drives in any gear until the gearbox gets hot ( around 5 minutes or 400-500 meters). In this interval the gearbox change the gears normal. After it gets hot (selector in D) I push the throttle pedal, engine is revving but the car doesn’t move forward. The reverse works if the gearbox is cold or hot.
I found a second hand gearbox but I am not sure if is from a facelift Freelander or a pre-facelift Freelander. Does it make a difference? I know the facelift have less pins in the round plug.

Unfortunately, I just bought the car unseen from Germany, I live in Romania and the seller do not answer at the phone. He published the car as functional. No service history. I am planning to change the gearbox next week and update the post if everything goes like planned.
