Discovery 2 ATF COOLER PIPE

Currently i’m working on a Disco II with automatic gearbox that blew the left pipe to the transmission cooler.

got the pipe repaired because you cant find any new ones.

Whilst refitring the pipe I really cant get the 19mm pipenut onto the left upper side of the gearbox I cleaned the threads on the pipe and tried to clean them a bit on the gearbox.

it just won’t get that first thread in, been trying for over an hour to get it in (also got the cat exhaustpipe out for more space).

Any tips/hints to get this done?

Make sure the rest of the pipe is totally free to move, or at least able to move a bit. There is a point near the starter where the two pipes are held together with a pair of shaped clamps, it may be an idea to loosen that or even remove it totally. As with fitting any other awkward thing in place, get the most difficult fastener in place first, not tight up but at least in and the nut wound up a good few turns.
Do start it off by hand or you'll be in a whole mess of poop.
Get it in position then wind it BACK until you hear it click, stop then go for it gently.
If the worse comes to the worst you may have to drop the gearbox down a bit. By mending the pipe you may well have altered the length and orientation of all the bends just a bit.
I know you may well have moved it just for the pic, but it is obviously not straight on to the hole.

Coming to it fresh you may just find it pops in.

You're going to have to line it up better than that to get it started, you're going in at the wrong angle there. Follow the advice of Stanley above.

Thank you for the replies, it took me another hour of swearing but I got it done by using a prybar, added a bit of pressure (gently) onto the pipe so it went deeper into the hole, hand wounded the nut with the special wrench tool to be sure not to crossthread.

Filled her up testdrive, no leaks
