Ignition light?

Since the engine rebuild I have just noticed that the ignition light is glowing very slightly. You cant see it in daylight but its there. The voltage from the alternator seems to have taken a slight dip to about thirteen and a half volts but it was over fourteen before.
Ive checked the fan belt and wiggled the sockets and wires but it aint disappearing.

Any suggestions other than urine or fire.

I had that on my 109. After several months the light would come on bright for a few.minutes and then go back to a faint glow. The battery would struggle to start it sometimes. In the end I replaced the alternator and all was well again.

Im thinking that might be the answer. Its only seven years old and done very little in its short life but it was a cheap one.

It’s very likely to be the alternator. The god thing is that they don’t cost too much and they are quite easy to fit yourself. Good luck

Mine was a right pain to fit cos the new one was a bit bigger. After about three hours of struggling I took it to my local garage and asked them to do it. They charged me £50 but it was money well spent.

Fitting a new one won’t be an issue it’s the testing I’m new to. I seem to remember it was a Lucas ‘style’ unit with W connector for a rev counter.
Being very tight and already renewing it less than 15000 miles ago I thought it may be a simple fault rather than worn out.

The alternator sounds like it is working fine. I would check the earth between the chassis and engine and cables between battery and alternator. Or switch off the heated seats, heated steering wheel and the automatic bum massager.

I think life is too short to be messing with it. A 70 amp replacement is only £70.
I’ll give the wires another jiggle before Bowers tractor parts are phoned.

Mine did that and it turned out to be a short in the fuse box under the steering wheel

It could be the voltage regulator in the alternator. You can buy new ones and swap the old one out, it all depends on how much f@rting around you want to do.

Having never had it open or even know if it has a number I should think ill leave it well alone. It is after all a Lucas TYPE alternator after all.

It would seem it’s an intermittent fault. Sumfin on the back of the ignition barrel ain’t tight and once wiggled it all starts working again. For a while anyway or until at least the first speed hump.

Wiggle the wires goin into the wee fuse box under the column see if it comes back, bet its one of those if its got spade connectors , might be just touching

Naa. Two of em had come off the fuse box but them wiz full beam and wireless. It’s deffo thignition. Little en in the middle I think.
