IMHO you WILL regret getting rid of such a nice original Defender and will never find another as good to go back to. I would have a very serious rethink before going past the point of no return.

Selling yourself short there, I would say thats worth more than 18k
Quick look on ebay would suggest low 20s and up, some nearer 30.

l know, part of me thinks "that's great" while the other part of me thinks "these are silly prices for an old Defender"

l will keep the order for the new Defender and decide what to do when it arrives. We could sell the Jimny and keep the 110

Yes 2005 model, one piece doors and the cheaper road tax!

l've looked at the posh door hinges but mine seem fine for now, l've recently fitted a heated screen and had the roof re sprayed plus five brand new wheels with tyres.

l've also fitted a pair of Puma cloth front seats (new take-off) and they are a definite improvement
I've kept the originals in case the next owner wants to put them back in.

l've had the tow bar electrics changed to 13 pin, and a replacement ECU after mine failed at Christmas (the original was also repaired so l've got a spare)

So she's had a fair bit spent on her this year.

I think 2nd hand car market has defo slowed, but if you notice the prices are not dropping, the dealers bought and paid for their stock at the top end of the market, so they are going to hang on as long as they can, as the first one to buckle will bring them all down.

Boats are still selling well, especially the smaller stuff.

Why are car prices holding high when people can't afford food, never mind driving to the shop to buy it!?

l don't understand that either, the country is supposed to be struggling and yet there's an 18 month waiting list for a premium SUV that starts at over £50,000

Also the roads are absolutely crammed with cars despite fuel being almost £2 per litre

Its only thems close to the breadline who are struggling. Thems with good incomes are not phased by the current price changes.

Variety of factors. The poorest sectors of society don't tend to have cars at all.
Better off people often saved a bit of money durng Covid, and got rebates on insurance and stuff if they looked into it.
Mnay of them are now desperate to catch up on business or leisure activities that they missed out on.
I doubt if rail strikes and airport staff shortages discourage people from driving either.
And although interest rates have risen, that hasn't really filtered through to savings accounts yet, so there is really no point in having money in the bank, so people spend it on new cars.

Other thing I’d be thinking is, how long is LR warranty period? You’d surely want your head testing running one out of warranty? So would you be looking to change up when it does? Anyone I know with a new range pcps then changes it back in and stays under warranty cover whole time. They don’t suffer the big depreciation hit either.
When my amarok is out of warranty I’ll likely go to Isuzu or Toyota just for that safety net of warranty. I think Toyota extend it to ten years provided your service every year/10k!
Is your defender your business vehicle with your jimny your daily? Mate, your td5 is so tidy and you’ll not find another like that without paying stupid money. I know what I’d do!

lt's very unlikely that l will buy the Defender that l've got on order, as the price has risen over £6,000 since l ordered it in January.

My friend has a Defender 110 on order, he's likely to go ahead with his, and he's got a pristine 34,000 mile 2016 Discovery 4 to sell.

This is a possibility for me, although a thread l started on the Discovery section of this forum had mixed messages, one reply being "lt's like driving a grenade with the pin pulled"

Truth be told l will probably end up keeping the 110.
