Halfords classic oil

I see the price of Halfords classic oil has shot up. The last time I bought a can of the stuff it was about £12. Now its over £31. Also, they have changed the design of the lid, instead of a simple screw cap its now a pull out plastic affair that looks like its going to be a nightmare to pour.

Yes its still the same shaped metal can with 5 litres in it.

Thanks for the link, bulk buying may be the way to go. Even though my old landy leaks oil, 5 litres lasts ages cos I dont drive many miles. One of the problems with getting old is that I remember when a gallon of castrol gtx cost less than a fiver, the thought of paying over £31 quid for a fairly low grade oil damages my Scottish dna

Thing is before Brexit, war in Ukraine, covid 20l delivered was about £40.

It’s quite an expense now. A full oil change on a series takes a fair old dollop of runny stuff.

i've been using Comma X-Flow Type Mot 20W50 for the past few years off of Amazon as it was cheap and delivery was free - having just looked back 4.5litres cost me £11.79 in April 2020 then £13.39 in June 2021 then £21.32 last time i got it in April this year. So nearly double the price in 2 years. Full change is indeed pricey now! Gonna have to start searching around again next time i need to do it

I always buy my oil in 20/25 litre tubs, but as said above the price has risen sharply in the last 2 years
I use Mannol oils from ebay in all our vehicles, and I would bet as its 20/50 there will be cheaper out there.

25 litres - so that should be a couple months worth then ;-)

I only buy the good stuff. Looks so much nicer on the drive.

The (formerly) cheap oil seems to have increased relatively more than the better stuff so now much better oil costs little more. Castrol 20w50 is another example - now around £33 - £35 for 4.5 litres. It is another fairly basic oil sold at a high price because it is in a metal can. For £33 - £38 you can get 5 litres of Penrite 10w50 which calls itself synthetic but is actually hydro-cracked highly refined mineral base oils, and vastly better than the other two.
