Rear Tailgate Release Button pulled apart at lunch. No particular sign of major water ingress. In fact I would say probably on the better side. Cleaned, greased and installed again working well.

Moving onto front. First port of call is the non bloke who changed the latch last time ripped the soundproofing out on that side and broke a load of clips!! Speaker wire also broken into connector so quickly crimped a new one and good to go.

Door latch on initial inspection looks good. Very good looking. Plug clean with no corrosion or signs of evil demons.
Rod could well be bent however moved very freely and doesn’t catch at any point in range of motion.

put it all back together lubed up and no issues on first drive round block. Then again It wasn’t constant anyway.

will order clips before I take door card off again. And will wait to see if it returns at which point I’ll whip the bugger out and take a look on the bench.

One weird thing I’ve noticed. Central locking off the fob is flawless but never works at petrol stations?!

Looking at the spring you've had a bit of water in there, could be signal interference at petrol stations.lots of places around here, mainly supermarkets and retail parks.ive told the Boss I can't go there.;):D

Definitely a bit of water yes. But assuming it's the original spring I'd of thought it would be worse so happy days. Does seem that way! I just lock on the key when I pull up and some point later it starts to work again.

Yup when you get out of the range of the interference. There have been many stories of the AA and RAC being called out and towing the broken down vehicle a hundred yards and hey presto it's fixed.

Could you elaborate?

What I have noticed is when it was locking randomly it was only the drivers side front and rear doors most times.
It was just a thought. If you press any sill lock then they all lock so (my thoughts) if, say, your front passenger door was getting triggered because of ,say, a bent rod then looking for a fault in the drivers door would be fruitless cos it hasn't got a fault?

It's a strange one for sure.

On the plus side I’ve pressure tested the the new/old bags. Cleaned them up and they are good to go. Not a second too late either.

Thermostat tested.

Local Landy garage had a set of rear bags off a customers car who switched to coils. Decent enough condition and will leak test at work over the weekend on the press so they aren’t unrestricted. Can’t beat a freebie even if they only last a year or two

Might be in my head but I definitely feel a difference since switching fuel filter
I can't see the bleed hole in that stat?

What do we all think about the doors locking and unlocking randomly when still and driving? Door latch actuator possibly?
Micro switches in the drivers door lock or the grease has dried out and the mechanism is sticky as a result. I have the same problem on both P38's and on one it's definitely the micro switches, the other may just be that it's gummed up, everything else that moves was full of dust from the fields.

Did it again on the way home. Lock and unlock rapidly several times in the space of a few seconds.

Interestingly after closer inspection its all the doors minus the front passenger door. That remains unlocked. It functions perfectly in normal operation with the key and fob

Time to have a look inside the passenger door. RF interference burns out the lock motors in the actuator. Expensive replacing them each time for the previous owner.

had that on mine a few years back. Twas micro switch in drivers door latch . New door latch and problem solved

Just quickly done the Thermostat change. Not too bad even with the 1 piece cowl. About 45 minutes plus bleeding. Just waiting for it to cool now and I’ll top it off.

see photo of old stat

going to get after the doors this afternoon!

I've had new burn out in a short time due to a RF receiver problem.
Was it new or second hand new? Plus not uncommon for new parts to be faulty. If its been stored a long time the grease inside could have set

there’s no mention that it was 2nd hand. About £310 for the job all in to replace it on the receipt if that gives indication
