Don’t want to start an oil argument but should I be using an A5/B5 oil? I know it needs to conform to M2C913-B & be 5w-30 but the owners manual states B1 or B3.

I’m led to believe A5/B5 does not offer the best protection for the engine?

Thanks

I used to have any of these on my shopping list, although it was 7 years ago now, so some might have been discontinued now.

Gulf Formula FE 5w-30 WSS-M2C-913A/B ACEA A1/B1
Fuchs TITAN XTR 5w-30 WSS-M2C-913B ACEA A5/B5
Fuchs TITAN Supersyn F 5w-30 WSS-M2C-913C ACEA A5/B5
Shell Helix HX7 AF 5w-30 WSS-M2C-913A/B ACEA A1/B1
Mobil Super 3000 X1 FE 5w-30 WSS-M2C-913C ACEA A5/B5
Gulf Formula FS 5w-30 WSS-M2C-913C ACEA A5/B5
Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 WSS-M2C-913A-C ACEA A5/B5
Motul 8100 Eco-nergy 5W-30 WSS-M2C-913C ACEA A5/B5
Millers Oils XF Longlife ECO 5w-30 WSS-M2C-913B/C ACEA A5/B5
Motul SPECIFIC 913C 5W-30 WSS-M2C-913C ACEA A5/B5

I like Fuchs oils, so that would be my preference, but as long as it meets the Ford spec, it'll be fine.

I think A5 is now the top dog, which used to be A1, the A1 spec was discontinued some time back

I use 5/30 C3 as its what my wifes car needs due to dpf etc, way to good for the disco but means only one drum of oil needed.

Of course if your d3 is 2007 or newer it will have a dpf anyway.

Dont get to wrapped up in the spec, decent 5/30 a5/c5 will do well, its more important top change it well before the official change interval bearing in mind the thing only holds 5 litres

Dpf never fitted to UK D3s, regardless of age.

I use magnatec stop/start which is A5. Plenty of it going cheap on ebay etc if you keep your eyes out. Got 16 litres for £55 last month.

You might need to check your info? I believe d3 went euro 4 2007 onwards which involved fitment of dpf, different injectors and high pressure pump.

Yes but not in UK, DPF was not standard fitment over here. If you have a UK D3 with a DPF then it is an import, a special order or a retrofit.

Plus 1, indeed no DPF for uk D3 models

personally engine oil wise I’ve been using the millers 5-30 EE performance / Jaguar Land Rover STJLR.03.5003 / ACEA A5/B5, ACEA A1/B1

think last time I paid around £70.00 for 7 x litres
