I'm pleased to see it's all back together and you can do trips in it.

After a transfer box rebuild a couple of years ago I had a problem with it popping out of gear. It turned out to be the foam pad that goes in the opening in the transmission tunnel. The mechanism was so free and easy after I'd put it all back together that the pressure of the foam was sufficient to push it out of gear, especially with a bit of torque, such as when going uphill or pulling away from a junction. I hope it's something as simple in your case. You should be able to feel the detent balls latching it in place in low or high. They're not very stiff to overcome but there's a distinct notch. Inside the box there's just a splined slider that engages one gear set or another, so there's nothing in there that would tend to push it out of gear. Anyway, hope you get it sorted.

Hey Brown hope you are well

Funny you should say this as i have the tunnel off now. Thing i was a spline or 2 out on the hi lo leaver and i have cut bait out of that foam as i think your right. Also the new Sh$%part diff lock switch has failed after just 6 uses!! i have a better on coming part number FEA 40960.

Yup, all well here thanks very much. Well, unpleasant situation at work with people being made redundant, but I haven't had the 'Black Spot' yet so I'm alright. I suppose it's similar in a lot of organizations these days.

I had a similar problem with reverse light switches. I had several cheap ones that wouldn't work or fell to pieces until I managed to find one sufficiently well made to survive.

Anyway, hope this is the forerunner of many happy outings in the Land Rover.

Hi guys i hope all of you are good.

So i thought i would give you all a bit of a update on what issues i have had now i have done 3,500 miles since the rebuild.

So if you guys don't know heres where i have been in the Landy since the MOT in march.

12 days in Scotland including the Outer Hebrides.
2 weekends in Wales including the Strata Florida and water brakes its neck green lanes.
Used once a week for work.

First issue i had was the pinion seal in the front diff lasted about 500 miles. I put 2.5L of oil in it during the Scotland trip. The after market seal that was supplied in a pinion flange kit by a reputable gear box parts company was no good. Replaced it for a OEM Corteco seal and is still nice and dry. Both seals were set to the correct depth.

Second issue was the diff lock switch gave up after being used twice! Come in a blue box and now replaced with a much better quality FEA brand.

Issue three the inlet/exhaust gasket blew across the exhaust port to the stud hole after 3,200 miles. Come in a blue bag now replaced with a Victor rinze OEM one.

The frustrating thing for me was the seal. I remember having it in my hand and thinking i can't believe this is not a OEM one but i fatten it in good faith because who supplied it. All of the other seals are OEM and are fine.

Now that the back has a fair amount of gear in i have changed the rear springs form green/white to 130 purple/brown and wow what a difference! i am very happy with how it rides and a huge improvement it has made. Still unsure on the wight of the Landy and that will come soon.

Its 10 week until the morocco trip and one thing i really wanted to fit is a raised air intake. im not a fan of the ones that come out of the side vent as my last one always got crap stuck behind it when green landing the over drone lanes. I wanted mine to be like the Camel Trophy ones then just went into the top of the wing but Mantec oolong make them so i made my own.

Very smart. Nice bit of tigging too....

What’s that you used on the top ????

One of these <https://www.lrchallenge4x4.co.uk/pr...-prefilter-cyclone-top-hilux-defender-patrol/> ... you can also get a Donaldson Cyclone, they are flatter and wider and 3 x the cost.
I've got one too, they do a great job of stoppong dust, water and other debris from reaching the air filter...

Glad it's going well and that the problems are (relatively) little ones. At least it is all nice and clean and the nuts and bolts come undone easily when you want them to.

I like to take plenty of Loc-Tite with me on long trips because you never know what's going to rattle loose next.

@meego @miktdish is correct. Mine is a Donaldson and i am really looking forward to seeing how it preforms in the desert dust.

@Brown cheers for the tips mate. Tomorrow im setting up a table in the garage to start putting things to one side for the trip. im thinking of making a Morrocco prep thread????

Good morning all.

Fitted the winch and bumper yesterday. It has been something i have been refurbishing bit by bit in the garage. Next is to wire in a isolator switch and recon the hand controller. Also still not made my mind up on rope colour

At least you have chosen a sensible winch! On mine I chose the cheapest rope colour but my preference would have been black. Also don't forget you will need a rope protector sleeve which again you will need to choose the colour of (link: example product but available lots of places) I would also recommend a rope retainer strap to prevent is coming off at the end of the drum (link: other brands available). I can also highly recommend the albright solenoid as an isolator (link), far heavier duty then the red keys you see people using.

I will see if I can dig out my packing list for when I went to morocco as I am sure I had that as a document rather than a scrap of paper. Might not be everything I took, and might not be everything you will need, but it might help give some ideas for parts and tools etc. Most of it wasn't needed, but the bits that were I am very glad I had with me!

What an adventure, brilliant.
Will do that trip on my bike one day before I'm past it. Did you drive all the way through France or sail to Santander?

Do it sooner than later mate. They are doing a lot of road building out there now.

We sailed from Plymouth to Santander but next time i will drive down France and make a adventure out of it. The boat is old and boring. I was like being stranded in a s@%t service station for 22 hours!
