Help
Friend of mine's intermittent wiper doesn't work but the rest do on his 300 tdi 90 any suggestions of why?
Thanks

Some of the early ones didn't have intermittent wipe - possible it had a later stalk fitted

If it once worked, faulty contact on the stalk would be a start point to look

Also worth checking the park switch on the wiper motor itself - I could be wrong, but think this also controls intermittent

When he turns the wipers off, do they self park roughly where they shoud?

Update:

My intermittent wipe issue was due to a dodgy relay; replacing with the VW delay relay has fixed the issue + has given me an adjustable intermittent wiper.

Ive just changed the wiper motor on my 97 300Tdi. All went well until I turned the wipers on. Now I cant turn them off ! They'll only turn off with the ignition. Could this be the relay at fault ? They worked before, but since then I did find evidence of water ingress through the front vents. Could that of possibly knackered the relay, and is there any way of checking it ?

Possibly. Was the old motor completely dead? If not, I'd just plug it in temporarily to see if it does the same thing. That way you can narrow the fault down a little. There's a permanent live to the motor and a park switch so that the wipers park after you switch them off at the steering column stalk. That can go wrong and could result in continuous wiping if its contacts aren't separating. Yes, wiper relays go wrong and have a limited life They're more than just a relay, there's a printed circuit board in there too so as to organise the intermittent function So they're somewhat more vulnerable than a bog standard relay. I've never formally tested my wiper relay, I've just got another one and plugged it in, which is a bit lazy of me I suppose. But with readily available small components it's not worth spending days repairing them.

Cheers for that Brown. A new relay is on its way. Thought that was the simplest way to go. I’m quite the novice with landy’s and trying to sort this for my lad. Time is limited as well. I’ll report back if the relay sorts it. Thanks
