Hi guys today I developed a thumping noise the faster I drive the faster and louder the thumping becomes so I know it’s driveline related

had a look underneath couldn’t find anything wrong except my front prop into diff has movement in and out and up and down? Is that normal?

Yeah don’t like to admit it

So what is the best way to Oldham?
Hang on thats a visual punchline....
Anyway to answer your question, no its not normal. This has come up recently but assuming its an L322 have you checked if the front prop recall applied to yours?

yeah my bad it’s a 2004 l322 4.4 v8 petrol

would this prop movement cause the issue I’m having or more likely a driveshaft?

how do I check about the recall I’ve o lot had the car for 2 weeks

Cant say for sure what noise it would make, but I wouldn't describe a CV noise as thumping its more of a knock or click

yeah I did think that when I’ve had cv joints fail before they’ve always clicked on turning etc

I dont have any vibration through the steering wheel and low speeds like 10-20mph nothing but more when I get to 30mph upwards window down you can’t hear anything more when windows are closed and feels as though it’s under the car rather than a wheel

Is that were they make battery's:rolleyes:.....back to the conundrum ,,,,like what i did there:D ,,,,Drumming could be lose wheel:eek: lost wheel weight ,or a tire breaking up ,ie tread separating:eek: ....
It’s strange you mention that actually because the day it started was the day I’ve had a new tyre fitted to the rear but I watched them torque the wheelnuts up might be worth me checking it

That movement is not normal

If a wheel isn't balanced then you can get a noise as you drive. Also if the tyre is damaged it can make bad noises, damage isn't always visible but can happen if you got a bad pothole or a curb etc at speed
