Why do garages do such crap work. When everyone goes electric, most will go out of business, and rightly so.;)
Given the ammount of angry pixies (high voltage) involved in the propulsion of electric vehicles, I'd imagine such poor workmanship on electric vehicles by dodgy garaes will see a lot of them rock up to the pearly gates in their greasy boilersuits.

Drove the 260 miles home in him, with only 6 cylinder drop outs in all that way. It's odd, it's just like a spark plug not firing for one firing stroke, only it's diesel, so I'm convinced I've got an injector which just fails to inject fuel for one cycle, very occasionally.

Took it to the beach for a break. It's been through a lot recently and it rewarded by not using a drop of coolant. Very good boy G4!!

Oh and cleaned it, yesterday as a further reward. :D
That's Jess in the boot. The retriever, not the wife!!

Fitted a super rare genuine accessory that until recently I didn't even know existed...

Out of curiosity, I wonder how many of you other die hard enthusiasts knew about these?

That is where I got mine from, but until I seen that listing I had no idea these existed, despite having had 4 freelanders over the years, and crawled through a dozen more over the years. Do a search for the part number and you find 8 available to buy, that listing has 7 in stock plus there is also an talian listing with one available, so yeah, although easily found by their part nuber, I still think it's pretty rare.

Quick reconstruction of the boot door;
  • Inner card off
  • Rotted handle off
  • New handle, swapped LED light over
  • Swapped black badge over
  • Soldered heated rear connection back on
  • Door card back in
Shame about the middle bolt rusting the door a bit but it's not hanging off any more. I noticed when I did it what the key is supposed to do - there's a rotating action that presses a switch inside the door handle with a blue wire that goes... somewhere. The key's never done anything when turned in the boot handle on mine. So...
  1. What position is the key barrel supposed to be in? When I first got the car it was vertical, but now I've managed to fit it horizontal
  2. What's supposed to happen when you turn the key and it hits that switch?
No blades in the barrel either, so anyone can shove a key in and turn it. Glad it doesn't do anything

Turning the barrel just puts the rear window up, if it is down.

No security risk as it won't open anything, just in case you lock car, walk away and notice rear window open!!!
All mine are vertical but hey, why not start a trend!!

Gave it a go, key to ignition 2 and lowered the window. Took it out, locked it on the fob... horn sounds to let me know a window is open but when I turn the barrel a whole rotation? No reply.

It's cool to know what they intended to do with it, that's the kind of forethought from the designers that makes me smile when I find something like that

What's supposed to happen when you turn the key and it hits that switch?

The boot key is there to wind the rear door window up, if you've used the fob button to drop the window to put stuff in the boot, through the open window.
Why LR didn't allow the remote fob to close the window again with the lock button is beyond me, as doing so would have saved them the cost of installing another lock in the boot handle.
If the lock is missing, it's no security issue, as it closes the rear door window only, and nothing else.

Freelanders are behaving so nothing to report after the recent TC and head gasket failures. So got the Cortina Mk1 into the workshop for halogen headlamps, replacement gearbox and to convert it to RHD. Nearly done!! :D
