Hi all
Well I thought I’d attempt to start my D1 300tdi Jap import auto edc this morning but yep she turns but no start. I realised the central locking wasn’t working so have put a new battery in the fob thinking this is much less faff than my Freelander 2. Or have I just made things more complicated?
I know this can be a minefield, last time I drained half a tank of diesel out as it had been several months and the fresh fuel did it. It’s been about 5/6 months this time around. I emptied the diesel filter and primed it with fresh diesel but obviously nothing.
I’ve heard all the nightmares about auto edc models but until now have got away with it.
I’m gonna drain what diesel is in the tank but I’m not sure if that is the cause.
Any help welcome
Cheers

Ok so you think the non starting is fuel related ? not an electrical fault involving the EDC unit, which is something I would investigate first.

Not sure really. One thing I forgot to mention is I did dilute the tiny amount in the tank with a gallon of fresh diesel.
But I’ll drain and refill I think.
Just wasn’t sure if changing the fob remote battery meant the immobiliser wasn’t registering a signal from the remote and needed programming etc

I think you may be focusing too much on old fuel, diesel doesn't degrade like petrol and six months is nothing to worry about. Mine is EDC and always starts instantly whatever the weather so long as the battery is in good condition and swings it over well, but if the battery is weak there's no chance, it has to be turned over fast. I am by no means an expert but I think Discool may have a valid point regarding the electronics involved with the EDC system but I would also be looking at the fuel lines for air getting in, a known weak spot is the pipes entering and exiting the sender unit, also the sedimenter, try loosening the fuel pipe on number one injector while someone turns it over on the starter and look for air in the fuel. Good luck and keep us updated.

There’s two simple indications on the fob working correctly, so, when the fob buttons are pressed the vehicle locks/unlock every time also the red LED dash indicator illumination goes out, the other is with the key in the ignition switch with the fob attached in close proximity the LED it will or it should stay out. The LED being out is in theory indicating the engine has been fully remobilise, which is not alway the case.

The owners handbook gives the correct info I'm sure on the fob function. :)

Also Google 300 tdi edc for more info on your issue, it appears quite common.

On my Edc, fuel wasn't getting to the injectors when I cracked open the pipes and I reckon it was an immobiliser fault at the pump or the green ecu in the left hand footwell and that's difficult to resolve. Hopefully it will be something easier, I would start by checking for fuel going into the injector pump and If none, work backwards and check the fuel cut off solenoid and lift pump. I removed the centre out of the cut off solenoid, never got around to putting it back in as it's not necessary on the edc.

Just to let you know my Disco fired back into life this morning. I’d already changed the sender unit etc last year. Turns out the battery wasn’t as good as I’d thought. I bit the bullet and invested in a Jump pack and after charging the battery again got a nice fast turnover as suggested by DiscoRay and on the second try she bounced back into life. I may have done a little dance and had grin like that of a Cheshire Cat!
So thanks again to all .
Now I can start on the welding…..

Glad you got it sorted. My old 200tdi used to start no matter what, if the battery had enough life to turn it over, even slowly, it would start, and I believe the 300s with the mechanical pump are pretty much the same regarding starting, but the ones with EDC definitely need a good battery that will spin it over with some enthusiasm. Once again glad you sorted it out.

Cheers. With more tech brings more problems it seems
Thanks again
