The Sun was blazing and the tide was high as I rode around the island on the seaward side of the sea-wall on the promenade.
However, the average speed was down from 10 - 11MPH to a mere 7MPH which is a measure of how far in decline I am.
My legs felt like jelly and were on fire (metaphorically speaking) for the majority of the ride.
This time last year I was doing 3 laps of this route in one go (24 miles) and in a much faster time.

Yep, and in view of the fact we have 4 crossings booked wiv em between now and the end of September we are V happy that we is wiv Britney!
DFDS, Stena and Britney must be laughing all the way to the banque.
And loads of peeps must be panicking, poor sods.

Sunny here all morning, just got overcast.
Just finished a celebratory beer as I have something to celebrate.
To sell my trailer I will need to be able to move my V8 Disco 1, which is blocking it in, and which I hadn't started for at the very least 2 years. It has just sat under a tarp all this time.
So I charged up a couple of old batts and took the tarp off.
One tyre was very flat, so I fired up the compressor and sorted that out, then fitted one batt and jump-leaded tother.
At first nothing then slowly with each click of the key I got more and more clicks and whirrs. eventually the solenoid was clicking but it wasn't turning over. So I mucked about a bit with the connections until it started to turn over.
Then persisted switching from petrol to gas to "do it yourself" and back again, until it started to think about firing. After a bit more persistence it fired and eventually ran. And this was on the old petrol and gas. So nice to be able to rev it up and hear the old V8!
So it wasn't seized, it wasn't stuck on wiv brakes it didn't flood and, jewel in the crown, the clutch wasn't stuck on in the slightest, took up drive smooth as butter.!!!!!
So I is overjoyed!!!!!
And people say LRs are unreliable!
Oh and the sun has just come out again!

Yerbut (it is reported) P&O paid out hundreds of millions to their shareholders whilst taking guvmint payouts during covid. And they'll prolly try and negotiate more tax payers money to resolve their current problems. All wrong in my opinion.

I thought making people "redundant" to only replace them with cheaper foreign labour, was against British law, but then again I doubt they are under Brit law. When Wifey worked for them, (cruise ships) they were still Brit registered so worked under Brit employment law, but this didn't last long and they got taken over by Lord knows who. Possibly Merkins. So their law can be summed up by "Let the devil take the hindmost".
Once this has all happened all one can do is boycott them.
Boris and all won't give a toss, especially if he and his cronies have already had a handout to grease the wheels, to mix my metafores!

Once the inevitable sit-in occupation of the ships still in port ends, I can't see any replacement crews being very welcome in the towns. Or any local labour still employed in support roles (fuel, chandlery etc) being cooperative. But there is a solution and a way forwards for guvmint; give the ferry routes to P&O's rivals.
