Axle Refurb - how to deal with reinforcement sections?

Hello. I have a Series 3, the axles have those box reinforcement sections. When you overhaul the axle (strip/repaint/powder coat , etc), what’s the usual procedure with these sections? If you don’t remove them, how do you access underneath - if you do remove them, how do you reweld without ruining paint/powder coat. And are they even needed!? Thanks

Cut them off if they are corroded. Not needed for normal driving conditions.

Has anyone ever bent an axle? Apart from if you rolled down a hill and to be fair a bent axle would be the least of your worries then.

Cut them off, blast them, weld them back on, cost them, fill the cavity with bilt hamber s50.
