Morning all - just a quick one:
I'm planning a bit of a spruce up on my 90 and wondered if you could use red oxide primer as a base for RAPTOR MULTI USE PROTECTIVE COATING

I'm getting the bull bar shot blasted...so will be down to bare metal.

The Crossmember has a bit of surface rust but generally solid. I'm going to grind it off with an industrial grade cleaning fleece (let's see how that goes)

anybody used Raptor? I'm reading some good reports about it.

You need an Xylene based primer.
Raptor (U-Pol) reccomend thier own 2K epoxy primer but there are others available ... Red Oxide is Cellulose based so may react/be unsuitable

As per @miktdish , Raptor ideally needs a Xylene based primer. I have used Raptor a few times with non-epoxy zinc and etch primers with perfect results.

Now the important side - Raptor and its primer are 2k based applications that contain isocyanate[!] Isocyanate is highly carcinogenic and also induces 2k sensitivity through the eyes, skin and raspatory system :. you must use the correct grade PPE before use. I cannot stress this enough.

If you do not have full fresh air feed PPE + correct gloves + correct full face goggles it's best to use Gerson 2k disposable masks + disposable gloves + full eye protection. And do not spray Raptor within an enclosed space unless you have free flowing fresh air supply and exit.

Apart from the above, it's a great product that's easy to use and gives excellent long lasting finish...just be very careful when using.

I just sprayed Raptor on my Rock Sliders... sanded down to bare metal, degreased and sprayed direct... on the aluminium chequer plate I etch primed first... seems to have bonded well enough.

No, just sanded to bare metal, and degreased with some thinners.

The Raptor instructions seemed to suggest this would work, but using their primers would improve adhesion.

Looks good. My 90 is done in raptor, did you use the aerosol or paint pack. I was gonna freshen mine up but fancied rolling it on. Seen a special roller online for the job. Beauty with the raptor you don’t have to be a professional

This is second time I have used Raptor, highly recommend it, first time is further back int he build, will be doing the truck body later this year.
First time used wrong primer, looked great but bits chipped off etc....

I'm going to use the aerosol. Hoping to get the bull bar and crossmember done out of that tin.
Ive ordered 2k primer as mentioned above.

What did you chaps use the degrease? I read above thinners - is that just cleaning off with a rag?

I'll post the results when I get time to do the work

Just make sure you stand well back and do a test spray first. Doesn’t matter how much you shake the aerosol, the first spray the paint always seems thick.

Don't try using a standard sponge type roller for a big or long job. It will swell up after a while and likely fall to pieces. Ok for a quick job though. Or just use several of them [depending if you can get them free from work or not ]
