Freelander 1 TD4 29,300 Miles

So thought you'd like an update and some photos on the above acquisition !

Lovely vehicle to drive, but had time today to put it up on the ramp and check it out.
All good news until I spotted (or rather it dripped on my head) a green liquid.
Tray off, covers off and first it looked like antifreeze (red antifreeze has a green hue which is bizarre) coming from the top of the engine and running down the cable protectors. Ugh I thought, 'cylinder head gasket'.
However, never had a head gasket go on a TD4 and so off with the inlet manifold and a check of the repair history confirmed a new radiator fitted.
The antifreeze was coming from the joint in the top hose to the block.
Removing and inspection revealed a damaged seal in the casting.
Replaced seal and all well.

Also took the opportunity to run PScan on the vehicle, useful as a record as it is running well and I wanted to log the figures, also useful to show what PScan can do. Perhaps someone else can do Icarsoft?? Last time I used Icarsoft to look at the auto transmission it told me the input shaft was running at 16,500 RPM on idle !!

So below are some photos of the fault, the general fab condition of the vehicle and some PScan screen shots.

Some of the beautiful unadulterated components. Although this vehicle has only had 2 services the top cover washers that should sit on the rubber inserts before the nut is fitted were incorrectly fitted to the underpan self tapping screws and several of the underpan bolts were missing!! Garages can't even respect a vehicle in this condition!

Uploaded the latest update to PScan, the connection to the auto transmission ECU was a bit hit and miss and has now been sorted. Feedback about the unit always receives prompt attention which is good. ICarsoft always told me to update the device and it was just the same afterwards !

I have inserted a .pdf with several screenshots showing just a fraction of PScan capability.
I used it to look at TD4 engine live data, Injector balance, Auto transmission live data, CCU status of components and key enabling functions.
It also reads and clears fault codes, but most others do that. What they don't do (but PScan does) is allow you to capture rolling data and import to a graph in Excel to look for trends or failures under certain conditions.

Happy to take any questions, but as there are many people asking about diagnostics, perhaps we could all look at what we have and post the results to allow comparison?? Certainly PScan does everything I have needed so far ! Also, additional requirements can always be requested for consideration.

As far as I can see, this is a near perfect set of TD4 engine data.

Its now gone 11pm on Fridaty night and I've been out of the piss at a mates's who fired up the Barbie and cooked a huge lump of fillet to perfection followed by to much glorious Kiwi Merlot and Irish Whisky.

Love the pscan info, one day I'll get one and can genuinely talk to me Freelander for ages - rather than just patting the A Bar and telling it 'well done broom' - sure she can't hear me - need a pscan jobbie.. Top bloke that @pscan.eu

Thanks for the compliments Andy. For the sake of honesty I think I should point out that I had to jump on this one particularly quickly, because the tool was not working as advertised. I really cannot have people not getting what they expect. There are quite a few other features that people have been asking for, sometimes for years, but, because they are features that I never claimed to support they have to wait a bit longer.
I am now working on a solution that the tool sometimes gets glitched by the starter motor operating, but I'm not going to promise that it will work until it works.

That does look clean, but have you posted any pics showing the rest / entireity of the vehicle? I'm also curious how the coolant on the belly pan is so very green when the coolant in the header tank iss clearly pinky/orange?

I know what you mean, I'm surprised how envious I am of such a clean engine bay and components, and non-perished rubber. It looks like a colour version of what you see in a Haynes Manual.

Yes, unsure what the anti freeze is. It is red, when you drain it it is red, when you leave a trace in the container it is green!!!
