hi mate

u must be a mind ready as that’s what I’ve done in leaving the silicone hose on my spare pipe, great idea about the dryer as I’ve got a hot air gun , so maybe when I’m ready could heat it up and then quickly try and get it on the disco

Typically it’s a Britpart item , alas bought the silicone hose set a while back , at least that will be all of the 3 x intercooler hoses changed with silicone ones, the short turbo hose was a right sod to change

thks so much for the awesome idea as admittedly I didn’t think of using the hot air gun , most appreciated , just got to find my extension lead now, lol

I must admit I've gone off using silicone hoses on the intercooler side of things as the ones on my FL1 just seemed to sweat oil & dust stuck to the greasy surface all the time (they were DPH Motorsport ones). I've not tried them on the cooling system but do use them on the vacuum side of things & they seem fine.
I must thank you because when I saw your picture of those mini Dremmel wire brush wheels it reminded me that I needed some. Hope you get yours sorted soon as reading what people achieve on their LR's is better than watching telly ! All the best.

Hiya

well I managed to just get the hose onto the disco , nightmare but it’s on, got to rest up as my back went again as I pushed the hose on, just need to now tighten them up

ur so welcome Ref the small wire brush wheels , found them really handy to have , plus just got hold of a small pump for my tyres , liked it as I can set the pressure I want , do have a tmax tyre pump but can’t preset that

can’t believe it’s taking me so long, but alas it’s just my health that keeps knocking me back, still never mind could be worse and know others are worse off than me so count myself lucky in that sense

soon as I finished that hose, I’ll need to secure the axle breather pipe as it’s near the driveshaft , think a cable tie will resolve that from going near it , can then get the plastic inner wheel arch back on and finally get it back on the ground, wheel back on and then move onto the fan and cowl , that will be around 90% finished

I got this off Amazon (one of their flash sales) £25 &, not the fastest inflator if you have a flat but for checking/adjusting pressures without having to plug into a ciggie lighter socket it's great. Charged via USB. The only issue was a faulty USB lead that didn't charge the battery.

funny enough I looked at some of those, great bit of kit and as u say very handy to have for topping up the tyres , suppose i went with the Milwaukee was because it came as a bare unit and alreasy have the batteries and charger , think it was £65

talking of things like this I keep trying to pinpoint a water leak, front passenger side , I’m going to put the smoke machine inside the cabin but then thought how am I going to turn it off without opening the door

Then remembered I’ve got some 12vdc wire , will push it through that hole by the servo , then simply connect it to the smoke machine and other end I’ll connect onto my Aux battery

Plus must measure the space I’ve got to fit my DC to DC charger , must get get fitting that and the solar panel, but need to get some long roof rails first , have all the cables, monitor, Bluetooth monitor as well so can monitor it via my iPad , oh yes almost forgot, need to get some cross rails for the panel

think I might use some L shaped stainless steel length to go across and bolt the panels to that , but need some Z brackets so the solar panel doesn’t sit higher than the roof rails

plus talking of tyres going to fit the 19 rims I got to replace my 17;, more than likely I’ll throw them away as can’t see anyone wanting them, tyres are hardly worn but are 5 x years old , going to fit some falken wildleak winter tyres, there snow marked as well and just leave them on all year round seeing i do very low mileage each year

read some good reviews on them, never had winter tyres so will be interesting to see what there like for every day driving thought the seasons, pic of the wheels I got , tyres 255/55/19

Hi mate watching your thread all looks good had a stinker of a cold so not done too much attached picture of engine loom now off. I usually use hot water on pipes quick dunk

Quick update

Finally got it back on its wheels , replaced the T bolt clamp on the turbo intercooler side with a wide stainless steel jubilee clip

Plus cleaned the earth post and terminals with a dremel, finally putting some coppaslip on the threads

Got the plastic inner wheel arch refitted , went to fit the wheel arch but alas just need to get a few clips that’s at the front of the wheel arch , they look different than the other yellow clips

Really pleased it’s at least now off the axle stand , next step will be the fan cowl , fan, TCM module, Y piece throttle body

hope I never have to do this again as indeed was an absolute pig

many thks and very grateful , indeed have put a serious amount of hours to slowly pinpoint the errors , learnt that if I allow a week from working on the disco just allows my back to ease up enough to then do some more bits

think the next bit will be to get the fan and cowl all back in , that then leaves me the throttle body and egr pipes , need to depin a connector and fit a new one on the air temp sensor , just things I’ve found as I’ve gone through it ,

fingers crossed should get it done by the end of March , alas all depends though if my back will allow me to do it in that time frame , lol

Really pleased it’s now at least back on its wheels , so at least that’s some progress , thks so much once again

plus thank god that awful new air inlet pipe back in , was a complete £@&#**# to fit

after this I do need to replace my rear lower wishbones , might get my local garage do that seeing the bolts are so @&@&#* tight , but have until sep to get them replaced as that’s when my mot is

also hope ur project is slowly moving along

sorry as well I missed ur earlier post , hope ur good , just what u don’t need ref ur pc, must admit 99% of the time I use my iPad , plus totally gone away from the windows operating system, do have an air Mac laptop if I need to use a disc or update my gap iid

got so fed up with the viruses etc on the windows system, considerably better with the Apple system

alas haven’t done anymore , don’t mind admitting have been seriously struggling with my back, drives me completely nuts when I can’t do something

I’ve just got the upper and lower fan cowl, fan, throttle body , egr pipes , replace broken IAT sensor connector , then lastly TCM module back in then battery

has been off the road for around 3 x months now , just hate it not having the landy but hopefully will have a good day so can get a little bit more done

don’t blame u in going slowly , hats off to u as don’t mind admitting not got enough knowledge to rebuild a TDV6 , following ur thread with interest as also really enjoy learning new things

did get some new crow foot UJ as will come in handy for a few awkward bolts/ nuts down by the air inlet

Hi mate all good in Norfolk glad to hear your ok was my first computer problem i lost all passwords etc decided to put a low mileage engine in for speed you always have nice tools, at the moment i am replacing my combination spanners and sockets with blue point one or two at a time decent trolley jack at top of list take care and keep the faith

ref trolley jack, alas I bought mine from SGS and got to say really pleased with it, know there customer service can be horrible sometimes but so far so good , plus many thks and have just tried to get the best tools I’ve been able to afford

Hi yes bought my engine stand from them. some of my spanners are nearly 40 years old so are worn. I always have a big tools wish list but new workshop is next putting a pit in the new part, Looking for low mileage engine local will take about a week once sourced as work keeps getting in way all the best let us know when you fire up TY

So today I managed to do a little more , got the following fitted

Fan
Upper and lower fan cowl
Throttle body
Egr pipes
De pinned broken air temp sensor connector
Removed old conduit and replaced with new as much as I could on the engine
TCM module
ECM connectors back on
Engine cover with sound insulation fitted
Fitted discovery 4 deep centre coin tray
Left the plastic cover in the intercooler turbo pipe

Got left to do

Tidy large loom by ECM/ TCM
Air filter inlet tube , also see if the new bolts i fitted to secure the air inlet will work
Battery
Try and get the hoses/ pipes back on that are fitted to the lower rad cowl underneath an access metal cover

then once started will see what errors I’ve got left , hope to god after all the work I’ve done it will resolve the issues, plus got hold of another diagnostics by carly , will be interesting to see what it can do, know it’s a bi directional which I’m hoping will assist for errors

Also think I may have found some new engine cover rubber grommets , will advise once there delivered if there correct

Just wished to update this and blimey nothing like stretching a job out as it’s been off the road for around 6 x months

Also wondered , has anyone found plastic connectors that would go on the end of the plastic conduit and electrical connector plse

hope that sort of makes sense , lol, basically a way of sealing the ends of the conduit , did wonder about using some heatshrink, ie like the 3 -1 ratio to allow me to get the heat shrink over the connector and will shrink enough

Plus reminds me , still have a roll left of the sound insulation for under the bonnet , same stuff I used for underneath the engine cover

as always many thks for all the fantastic help that’s been extremely useful

got everything crossed that after all the work I’ve done will cure the error codes

Plus this is the new scanner I managed to get hold off, will just be interesting to see if it will show any more detail etc that the gap iid

think is has the turbo boost temperature pressure settings ? , will of course update the thread along with some screenshots if it’s any good, also has the extra mechanics guide on the carly obd2 reader , plus with it being bi directional I’m wondering if I can command the Rubio actuator or other settings that the gap iid doesn’t have

Also on the back of the air inlet I’ve installed a test point which has a tyre valve threaded part which will allow me to screw my gauge onto it , gauge does both pressure and vacuum

just wondering if I can ultimately at the end of the day fit a turbo boost gauge , suppose wont know depending on the results I get from the temporary gauge , alas just guessing if that’s a good point to connect into
