Does anyone add 2-Stroke oil in with their diesel.
Me and a mate were reminen reminas remembering back to when race tracks smelled of Castrol R. I then remembered a mate suggesting i add a litre of oil in with a tankfull of diesel, for some reason, and i wondered if tossing in some Castrol R would bring about THAT smell? Or kill the engine?

It wont hurt it, but if its a new jobby then I would be careful due to the dpf.

Just done a 1200 mile straight trip from the eu it was 2 in the morning and I by mistake put petrol in 7 litres till I realized so I then filled it to full with diesel I was shifting a brick but she started ok and I must admit she ran slightly better got to half a tank and re filled !!!

I use 2t in diesels - OLDER pre pd type I must add...

aparently it helps lube the older 'VE' type pump & injectors and as in 2t engines helps clear the soot from the combustion-chambers & ports ALTHOUGH I cannot garantee this:oops:

as to petrol in diesel, that was an old Lorry 'get-through-the-plating' trick, a gallon per tankfull (lorry big tanks:confused:) helped clear crap from fuellines and evrything else:D

Rich.

I run our 300Tdi's with 1% MINERAL TSO - they are noticeably quieter :)

Any mechanical FIP diesel should benefit from it - I wouldn't bother in anything common rail - can't really see the point - the "bits" you want the extra lube for ( o_O ), aren't there on common rail ;).

Ooooh, do you have a link for this? I travel over to Shelsley or Prescott to have a day immersed in "parfum de Castrol R"...and to watch the VSCC boys. Like these...

That old Darraqc is lovely bit of kit:)

i still have a couple of tins of castrol r in the garage i do put a little bit in the tank off my mk1 cortina every now and then it smells so goood:D

Massive thread on disco3.co.uk about this going back years and years. Personally I don't bother. Mate of mine with a perkins converted 110 has done it for years and swears by it.

Used to be a thing to add ATF to diesel as its a good cleaner.

My last 300tdi got some of everything in it....new and used cooking oil, atf, new engine oil, petrol/diesel mix from customers cars. all in various quantities depending on what was around.....it did get pump diesel as well :) Id say it ran a bit better with a bit of petrol in it :)

Sure I heard they used to add a bit of petrol to the diesel to stop it freezing in winter before the manufacturers started adding antifreeze to it. Or did I :)
No, I heard this too. But don't know about it being "they", more like the drivers of the vehicles. But then the oil companies started adding special additives to make "Winter diesel".
