Hi,

my 2015 discovery 4, 39,000 miles on the clock stopped running last week. JLR have come back saying engine seized, quoting 12k to replace. Does anyone have any advice on my options?

1)do I pay for the repair (push for a reduced price due to engine low mileage)
2) sell it to a problem car purchaser
3) can I get any sort of part exchange….

I’m really lost, any advice would be amazing

I frequent various social media D3/4 related forums

This is becoming more and more a recent post now, I really feel for you regarding this. There has been some great advice on FB Discovery owner pages where it has happened unfortunately to the owner. I have read both good and horror stories regarding the owners dealings with JLR

You really need to pursue this with them and be adamant that this should not have happened

They will look into it and more so distance themselves from the situation if service records haven't been kept up to date

The 3L engine has a serious issue that LR will not acknowledge

I really do hope you find all the information you require and the correct outcome that LR need to replace this probably all be it with a contribution from yourself

Plus 1 really sorry to hear this

Plse give this company a call as they got a good reputation, maybe give u some better prices of what ur looking at , know there not near u but there’s not many garages that really know what there doing when it comes to these engines

https://www.ovalautos.com/contact

Plse let us know how u get on , indeed it’s a shame that in other countries like japan etc they will replace these engines at there expensive

Even happening in discovery 5’s

If there's a full service history, worth having a go at LR, try Trading Standards as well, but I wouldn't be too optimistic.
The other issue is that even if they did make a contribution, the second hand engine with a reputable supplier would be a cheaper option.
Another point is if all you can get is a higher mileage engine, that will harm a future resale value. Pros and cons unfortunately.

I would give MMP Land Rover a ring and ask for their advice they are up Scotland even so it still might be worth shipping the car up there and see what they can do for you
A 2015 model discovery with 39K on the clock is still worth quite a lot of money so it might be worth investing in a secondhand engine fitted by a professional, not a so-called reconditioned engine!

Thank you everyone, will follow up on these options.
LR have opened a “case” and are looking at what they can offer on the cost. Have contacted the above aswell for quotes.

will keep you posted

This is crazy and needs bringing to the attention of the general public. I would contact as many news papers as poss and shout long and hard.
If this is a known issue with their engineering, it needs sorting.
Not exactly a 15k fiesta, these were/are sold as prestigious motor's and JLR can't just sweep it under the carpet.

No investigation done yet as to root cause, waiting to hear back on good will from JLR.
Can’t imagine hitting the “press” would do too much, old story isn’t it?

been offered 17k to take it as a non runner. Wondering if that’s easiest and just suck it up
