Hi everyone

Oky so about 2 weeka ago i boaght a 2005 freelander td4 hse, but it didn't start at all, the starters bushes were finisb and the solenoid inside was also totally gone.

So i went ahead and repaired it, and that operation was successful.
All fair and well the car starts now, but, each time i try to start it it struggles to start up.

Its cranks up and everything turns but it doesnt start with the first try as its supposed to. Each time i have to crank it for about 3 or 4 times before it actually starts.
Im not to sure where to start looking for the problem, please do help me with some advice and knowledge.
Kind Regards

Fuel pressure regulator O rings are a classic cause of failure to start.
Also try unplugging the MAF, which can also prevent the engine from starting.

Thanks Nodge68 for the reply, what does the MAF do and where will I find it? I've also read posts where they talk about the crank sensor, not that I think it's that, but yha.
The O-rings that you've mentioned I believe I'll find in the feul pressure regulator and that I can replace them?

Oky cool thanks for that...

Ive cleaned the pcv valve area and also noticed that the MAF plug wasnt plugged in all the way.
Took it for a test drive and no EML light came on...

The problem starting is still there, so what could be the next topic to inspect?

make sure the fuel rail press. sensor elec. plug/socket is squeeky clean

test if any injectors are leaking back excessive fuel to the return lines
[ look for 'injector leak back test on youtube ]

````````
acquire an obd scanner and check fuel pressure readings ..
.. could be a worn hp.pump ..
( edit 2 add ) .. maybe get the vac. res. tank sorted ..
and clean the rail sensor plug ..
if no-go ..
do the leak back test
Hi,
If the engine start and run well, the crank sensor and camshaft sensor are good and doing their job !
Start by looking for any fuel leak ( fuel hoses, hp pump ... ), then look for injectors leak back ...
