Hi Peeps, I need to replace a bit of my mid section exhaust with flexi pipe, the exisiting pipe has a dia of 45mm and the flexi I was thinking about using is 48mm dia, so, would it be ok if i clamped it up either end and sealed with exhaust gasket sealer? Or is 48 too wide? P.s havent got a welder☹️

Don't cut slots in it, its a spiral and will fall to bits. Loosen or tighten the spiral to get a good fit, slap goop on and do the clamps up.

Thanks, the particular pipe Ive ordered has solid finished collar ends on, I suppose made that way for that very reason! Still waiting for delivery, one of the many unjoys of living in the absolute middle of nowhere!

Do rules about exhaust noise limits apply to vehicles over 40 years old and MOT exempt?

As far as I knew if it had a silencer from the factory, then legally it had to have one fitted to be used on the road.

If it is larger bore you can always wrap a tin can around the smaller bore and get it close enough to clamp the larger bore too.
Yep, tried and trusted method...

There is a dB limit when going through vehicle approval as part of registering so exceeding that as part of a modification might result in falling foul.

Maybe it doesn't matter in the middle of nowhere

I was just thinking if it was a reason for an over-keen police officer to give the driver a hard time.
