Freelander 1 Tailgate cable replacement

My Freelander 1 tailgate window cable has broken.
I’ve removed the motor/regulator and was wondering whether to buy the complete regulator and cable assembly ( minus the motor) already built up or just buy the cable. Is the cable easy enough to fit into the old regulator and motor or am I better going with the pre-built one.The complete regulator is £50ish and the cable is about £10.

My personal preference is to get the regulator as I don't fancy faffing around with the cable mechanism, but others would say just do the cable. Either way, give it plenty of grease when you change it to try and prolong it's life. You can get regulators for £35 on ebay.
