Land rover owner defects to Nissan

After a lifetime of land rover ownership in particular discovery 1 ownership and relationship with Mr rust I have defected to a Nissan X Trail. I investigated possible owning a disco 3 or 4, but, after discussing with owners of disco 3/4 and being advised extreme cost because of the amount of not very owner friendly electronics I decided not to follow the landy course after 58 years. What a shame my favourite vehicle to the trash bin. Oh WHY cannot LANDROVER produce a reliable vehicle. Perhaps more time should be spent investigating faults and reduce the mass of technological whizbangs which I should imagine if not faulty would be a magical vehicle. Saying that My X Trail has a very full dash well lit and a handbook similar to a degree course, but it does not go expensively wrong. Mind I was ripped off with a certain mechanic who diagnosed an emission light as a injector fault, £400 for a new not required injector, turned out to be an emission sensor.
Good luck to all landy owners, would have still had my 300tdi if the chassis and body hadn't started to turn to dust again.

Very pretty little thing.
but won't tow 3.5 tonnes tho.:(
 
x trail rots our rear shock towers, lift covering and check, or google why did I buy a hair dressers car:D
 
If I am about in 23 yrs I'll be a sprightly 103. Don't need to tow 3.5 tons, my tractor will manage the boat ok. As I mentioned would have gone for a d3 or d4 but too many acquaintances of mine have stated electronics seem to be not up to the mark. From my first landy (series 1) through series 2, 3 and discos even a shogun - big mistake. Still think of landrover, could not afford running costs pa of 2K. The green oval served well in the past.

I think you are right avoiding a vehicle that may suffer with electrical issues. I purchased my 300tdi two years ago so that I could avoid electrics.

I hope you're new truck serves you well and you get great pleasure driving it. Sometimes it's hard to brake a feeling of loyalty, but you have to be realistic.

My time of life hair gone teeth gone attraction to fairer sex gone, car very comfortable, underneath NO CORROSION (rust). Me fitted pace maker, severed Achilles - medic cannot believe .no use for sticks etc, called me a stubborn B######d. Still miss Green oval.
 
A Nissan X Trail is a Renault, and they're plagued with mechanical and electrical issues, oh and they rust too.
I'd have bought a Freelander 2 in preference to that crap, oh I did. :D

I had 2 Terrano's, a 2000 Y reg 2.7 and a 2005 3.0. The 2.7 was pretty rotten, body wise, the 3.0 was really solid, me and the oil can made yearly ventures underneath which kept it sorted.
Both were superbly reliable and never let me down.
Now got my D1 which is solid and a keeper.
The X trail was when Nissan went to Renault for engines and they can be hit and miss
 
The old man had a x trail from new to replace his disco. It was diesel, which meant Renault. And very unreliable. Went to a gaylander 2 after that. Very reliable motor. Got rid of that recently as it was getting old, replaced it with a disco sport which is too new to fully assess yet.

I had a Ford Maverick, which was just a re-badged Terrano 2. I did almost 100k miles in that vehicle over 7 years, without anything serious going wrong. I did need all the brake pipes replaced @ 10 years old though, and a clutch flexy hose sprang a leak too.
I sold it when it wasn't going to pass another MOT without some serious welding, and I mean serious. Mechanically though, it was absolutely bomb proof, and I wasn't at all kind to it, but it just shrugged off the abuse. It was still running perfectly with over 200k on the clock, and I reckon it would have done another 200k easily, if the chassis hadn't been made of low grade, untreated steel.
I believe the 2.7 TDI engine was also used in a version of the London taxi, and was capable of stellar mileages.
