Nato Geen Paint Problems

Just had info about the paint I bought. It is synthetic. So why are 2 synthetic paints reacting with each other? lrb2 (above) had the same problems.
Looked at the Series III this morning. Has dried out after the rain of yesterday and it looks sh**e. Lots of tiny holes in the paint where the bubbles have burst. Looks like it's got acne. Lots of white streaks as well.
Best get the sander out again. But before I reapply the NATO green paint any further advice?
Thanks

last time i painted synthetic was 5 years ago and it was for some rams for a challenger and before that in 1980:eek:....problem with synthetic is drying or curing it as it takes ages and you are putting a thick film on if you are brushing or rolling it on...then you are only air drying it so it will not be fully cured so to speak.....remember i said earlier about letting the paint breathe to allow the top film to cure well i think you are recoating too quick so its reopening the film underneath....which is a big no no.
if you reflat it then leave it open for a week before recoating then try a test area first....personally i would try thinners and wash it off as you are recoating over dodgy paint.....even steam cleaning it might remove it or at least soften it........your paint in simple terms is still wet under a dry top coat.....thats why i hate synthetic paint as they tried to speed it up by making it into a 2 pack system...if you get stuck them get in touch

aaaaaarrgggh just read you flatted the primer down before recoating....you basically opened up the paint then introduced more wet paint on top....get a scotch pad and damp it with thinners and scrub it down in small areas and dry with a cloth...it will be hard work but better than repainting over whats on now..sorry for the bad news.....did you get wrinkling or crazing all over

not sure if you mean me or not , but , my paint is fine , as soon as i got rid of the primer it went on a treat .... and its been on over a year now ..

Thanks for that. Just sanded the whole vehicle down again and given it a wipe with thinners. Will let it dry as best I can then have another go. Will leave it to breathe as you say. At least a week.
Understand what you say about the paint curing but when I applied the NATO paint it was on top of primer that had at least 2 weeks to go off. It also had the benefit of being sat in the sun for the only bit of summer we've had so far (4 days).
Anyway, I'm a lot better prepared this time thanks to you guys. It is very much appreciated.
Before I go just one more thing. Have got a compressor and airline. Getting a spray gun for a day or two not a problem. Problem is I've never sprayed before. The NATO paint will need to be thinned I presume. Do I use thinners and how thin do I go. Any tips?
Thanks
Steve

no it was for the original poster...synthetic is ok as long as you do not try to recoat over fresh new paint.....but if you have to then flat it and leave it overnight or longer before you recoat as this basically closes the pores so to speak....remembering you are putting a bigger paint film on this way than if you were spraying it on so curing time is longer....

Just seen your post @1941hrs.
Luckily I've not put any paint near it. Just got the flakey stuff off and tried to make it as presentable/acceptable for the NATO paint. Promise I'll leave it for at least a week. No wrinkling or crazing apparent. Just blistering in patches.
Is there anything that will seal or help cure what is on already?
Thanks

i have only used ici / glasurit / sikkens paints but when i used ici polyurehane i only added 10% 1039 thinner which you can also use as a panel wipe...does it not say on the tin thinning ratios etc...if not then its a case of suck it and see on a test panel....old deviblis jga 353 were good guns to use and i ust thrown one away as i only use gti now:eek:

can you not ask the supplier for the ratio...jus done a search and i think you have beckers paint.....cannot find any data for this but most synthetics use between 5 and 10 % synthetic thinner....

Me again. Yup it's Beckers paint so I've just been told. It's a 1 pack paint also.
Feeling a lot better about things now. Now I've got me ead round it all!
Will try the spray gun next (mates just dropped it off). All that masking off though!!! Will try a test on a panel and leave it for a few days to see what happens. Fingers crossed it'll be OK. Interesting about the spray can paint for a sealer but knowing my luck I'll pick up the wrong one and cock it up again.
Will keep you all posted. If you read in the press that a blokes hung himself with an airline...........
Seriously though.
Thanks guys fantastic help

they is no sealer i know off to help you and i have 31 years experience:D...tricks includes meths and shellac knotting:D just thin it 5% at first and spray a test panel....your looking for an even spray patten and remember to keep gun parallel and about 8 inches away...even turn the needle screw in as well.....actually spraying is easy its the knowledge behind it thats a bugger.....worse thing you can do is use an areosol as its mostly gas and solvent and the latter is also a no no:D
