For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to put my hand and a hole saw drill bit together.. my hand lost. They have picked the metal out and patched me up got to the bone but very lucky missed my tendons for the fingers. The good news is only the fuel tank to connect and I'm done. The best thing about it all it's the first day of freedom after covid and I spent it in A & E  let's say I'm not in good books ...

Swapped the engine due to a timing belt issue and welded the footwells

Checked the lights all work, horn, seat belts move.top washer fluid & clean screen
Find grease gun & new grease cartridge
Text MOT man & ask what they want for breakfast on Friday.
(No this is not a bribe… it to slow him down while I grease my nipples)

can guarantee no holes in chassis or bulkhead just hope the brakes are good

Just drilled out the door hinge bolts - whoever decided a screw bolt was a great idea? In my haste I forgot about the check strap so then had to hold the door left handed whilst trying to undo the 3 bolts . Then about 6 of the 8 or so floor screws gave up and the rest were drilled out. A quarter of the Defender is now missing. Good news being the floor and bottom bulkhead is solid - I’ll add pictures later.

few days ago I bought a 'Slickshift' (quickshift) for the Ninety, not cheap so I hope it's worthwhile & makes driving easier for my mrso_O

will fit it shortly & report back:cool:

Rich.

I've really hummed and hawed over buying a slickshift kit so would be really interested how you get on with this. I actually like the standard gearshift throw and after refurb', setting up and a thorough greasing I think mine's the smoothest of any Ninety gear change...there's a tactile pleasure in the no rush change of gear lever.

I must confess that if my mrs could reach first / reverse thhen the standard setup would have stayed:oops:

but...

she requested it;)

now it's done theres some re-learning to do - mostly the position of gears and not reaching for the wipermotor when selecting reverse (Lt77 box)

Mh8tI09.jpg

the expensive kit:confused:

OSQYMXX.jpg

longer pivot-distance on new shifter.

D6lokSL.jpg

the 'spacer' fitted, I used Locktite 'Flange Sealer' to stop leaks.

assembled.

criticism time, this kit was not cheap but for the sake of a few pennies Syncrogearboxes could have thrown in an M10 nyloc nut / washer to attach the gearstick:rolleyes:

Rich.

Maybe you put the m10 nyloc nut/washer somewhere safe?? ;)

Don’t forget to replace the hi-low knob:)

thats on my list but I did manage to buy a nos LR gearknob (the 'origonal' had lost it's rubber interior & gone floppy - much like the upper gearstick:mad:)

as to using the transfer box's stick as a handy storage....

urC2JFv.jpg

when dismantling it was a good 10mm socket holder:p

Rich.
