Think I have a faulty ecu. Engine starts on turn over for a few seconds then dies, relay under drivers seat clicks off.
What basic checks can I do to confirm it is the ecu. No warnings on the dash. cheers for any pointers. G.

First should be a diagnostic test, find what fault codes are saying and move on from that information. It can be a minefield trying to second guess. Alternative would be to send your ECU for testing.

Got this back from one of the reader suppliers, is it BS or literally just a reader of codes.

I have no knowledge of this product. It looks good will it cover all these vehicles at that price or do you select a vehicle and any additional vehicles are an additional price?.
Put a separate post up maybe in Range Rover forum and Discovery forum as well as this forum see if anyone is using one and what they think. You may get a bigger audience that way. (Or someone will moan about duplicate posts)

EDIT Don't forget the Freelander forum, they will think you don't like them.

I have got an icarsoft cr elite, it is a handy tool, I have used it to reset throttle bodies, pinpoint airbag and abs faults on various European and Japanese cars. Also correctly diagnose abs problems on a td5 discovery.

But it would not communicate with the engine ecu, although my discovery was a 53 plate, I believe later td5 ecu's MAY be accessed as the protocol changed after 2004.

Hope this helps.
