Single Point Swing Away Spare Wheel Carrier

Hello everyone,
Does anyone have any experience of the LRS single point spare wheel carrier. I would like to hear of other people's experience of both the product and the company before parting company with £600.

They all look the same so i'm not sure who makes it ...
It would put a reasonable amount of weight on the rear X-member, which as long as it's good-n-solid shouldn't be any problem.
For the difference in cost I'd be tempted to go for a dual point system sharing the load between the tub capping and the X-member

The loading on the cross member must be interesting?

Yes, that's the one. It is the same picture in both adds. Safari Equipment don't make it anymore so the LRS one must be old stock. Been looking for a single point but various suppliers seem to be out of stock at the moment. The O.R.E version is on back order only. I can't find any reviews or independent advice on the LRS one so wanted to ask around. Can't bear the thought of drilling in to the tub capping for a duel point. I have experimented with bonnet fitting but it is too obstructive for a 235 tyre. Probably not so bad with the old 7.5 inch tyre.

I fitted some GORE rear door hinges and they say you can do away with the need for a separate wheel carrier as their hinges will stand the weight. I still fitted a 2 point swing away for other reasons. I have to say, the GORE hinges, both rear door and bonnet, are a work of art and deserve to be framed and hung.

I’m unsure what the single point adds except more stress. Does it just prevent to second fixing from damage to the body work. I’m sure, prolly wrong, but my dual fixings went into existing fixing points. Do tell

It's the door that fails in my experience, not the hinges ... they are nice though .... not sure i'd spent over £300 on a set of 3 rear door and 2 bonnet hinges.

My door had failed too. Cracks and holes where the wheel mount frame attached to the skin. I reskinned the door with galvanised steel then bonded thick aluminium plate on the inside between the frames. Main reason for fitting the GORE hinges was security.

That's right. The internal frame if the door has stress cracked near the wheel mounting plate. The hinges are fine. Keen on the chassis mounted system as all the load goes through the heavy chassis, rather than the thin body tub material.

I would question “why” they have stopped making them. All that weight going on to one offset pivot point doesn’t sit well with me.
