Has any fitted a Land Rover 13 pin din trailer socket kit to a TD5 90, is it a straightforward plug in, or there there some wire splicing/soldering etc involved

Thanks for the advice, but its not much use. At present I have a 12n socket fitted, so to power caravan internals etc I also need a 12s socket

There is not much point in fitting a 12s socket then b**gering about with a convertor when a 13pin socket will do the job properly

The point would be you could tow anything with either the 12/n/s sockets and the euro plug

I take your point, but I will for the time being only be towing a new caravan.

Whatever I do will involve rewiring the landy so I want to use a euro plug, then if ever I want to tow a simple trailer I can use a converter for that. If I do it the other way I will have cables to keep out of the way every time I use the caravan.

Thanks anyway for trying to help

Resurrecting this thread

l need to fit a 13 pin towing plug to our Defender TD5, l can use an adapter with my existing 7 pin plug but it won't work the caravan stability system.

The above link no longer works, is there an "official" wiring kit or is it a case of hard wiring it?

l take it the existing harness could be used along with some extra wires.

There is an official wiring kit and diagram for the 12s socket as I fitted one to mine, I will see if I can dig out what I used as may help with the 13pin instillation.

I know it has been said before but I would recommend fitting a 12s and using an adapter to take it to 13pin rather than fitting a 13pin and using an adapter to take it back to 7pin for older trailers. towing electrics are temperamental at best, and sit nicely in the path of all the salty road spray. A 13pin socket is an mot testable item whereas the 12s/n sockets are not.

I just used a converter lead on the back of the D3 moving a mates tin tent for him.

That would be helpful, thank you!

Have you any update on this, The caravan is due to be delivered next month an l have now been told that l can't tow it with only the 7 pin plug because the ATC stability unit will apply the caravan brakes if it isn't powered.

I either need the second electrics plug that used to be fitted, or a 13 pin plug fitting. l can't find anything online, if there was a harness available l could fit it myself.

There is a harness listed part number LR005919
But it's for "Defender 2007-2016"
Will that work with the TD5?
