Ok second post on here. Jumped in the landy after work today, turned the key and...nothing. the starter isn't turning at all.b Can't jump or bump start - have tried using a trickle charger for a couple of hours too and still no joy.
Am I missing anything obvious? It's my first landy so quite possible...

Few more details would be useful. What engine/Landy. Do lights come on the dash? Are any other electrics not working? Symptoms leading up to this?

Hi Miktdish
Electrics work, headlights work, lights on dash etc.
TD5

Edit: started absolutely fine this morning...just was turned off for 10hrs while sat in car park. Then wouldn't start again.

Hi nielly. No it's not - a faint hiss/whirr from the centre somewhere but that's it. Doesn't sound like any attempt from the starter. Couldn't bump start it either.

Thanks Miktdish. I'm not by the car now (I had to leave it at work and get a lift home) but I will take a look at that tomorrow. The fact that it was absolutely fine until this afternoon makes me think it must be something like that.

Sounds like an issue isolated to the started. Start at the motor with a multi meter and work backwards. Check all wiring is connected correctly and you're getting power to it. If it is then likely need new starter motor, if all wiring connected but now power work backwards to find the break/fault

Hi.yes that did cross my mind.i know some cars are notoriously difficult/impossible though. We once spent an entire Saturday lurching up and down our drive in a f**d transit only to find it's completely impossible. Gave us some exercise pushing it though

Yes, you need to really give it some to bump start a big diesel!
