Hello all,
i posted this in the Discovery section as car is a 2001 Discovery 2 v8. I thought might be bette rot put in here?...Can anyone confirm what bolts are please.

I am trying to get some bolts for the water pump in preparation for changing it.
The part number in my JLR parts list for the bolts, the small ones is FS106255L and it sayes they are M6 X25mm
They say this is for a V8....I think this is wrong and this is for a TD5. Same bolts listed for TD5.

Th pump needs 3 long bolts BH505401L I think is the number and its 5/16x3inches UNC I have read.
I find this weird mixture of metric and imperial.
On the Atlantic British web site they do a kit with short bolts M8 and long as above BH505401L 5inch long UNC.I find them generally to be right just find it odd.I appreciate engine starTed life in the US

Thank you and hope you help me....

Ok. I've done a few and not seen anything too bad as yet though I've wire brushed the threads in a couple. Always reused though, maybe just been lucky

You've had a number of replies in the Disco section but you appear to be confused.
If this link works for you it shows bolts M8x25mm and M6x25mm for the V8 Disco 2. Click through until you get to the relevant page.

The older Disco 1 is also on the site so you can look at the pump you have fitted & compare it with what's pictured to see which pump you have on your engine.
A factory workshop manual for yours might be a big help.
If you deal with Atlantic British then it might help if you email them asking for their advice as to exactly what you need. And a price for a full set.
Or in the UK any of the 'usual suspects'.

An observation from my own experience on my '86 Classic Range Rover which uses pump STC483
If you do have the very long bolts BH505381L and BH505401L be aware that they do need a sealant on the threaded end as per the workshop manual.
Two reasons.
Firstly to seal as the hole they thread into is open to the coolant.
Secondly to help prevent the two metals corroding together.
Be careful tightening them. If you get carried away they can shear. The same can also happen when undoing them if they've seized. Then you need to take the front cover off to get at the remains & that's a whole lot more work - and the broken stub might be a pita to get out even then!
I've not had a problem with the shorter bolts.

I am not confused at l all seems you mis read the Disco posting the replies relate to the pump fitting not the bolts. ..This is about bolts.

I have got a workshop manual a paper one from JLR…I do not like digital ones.

The long bolts go in to the block water jacket ,I know they need sealing to avoid drips.

in the parts book it lists 4 different pump options for Disco V8 yet traders just sell one for all 98 to 2004 models which is worrying.
I did contact various big parts traders for info and they were not interested .

I found the longer bolts on JLRs site listed for a tow bar.

I do not deal with Atlantic British but am thinking I may depends on shipping costs.I like the videos they do and think probably more V8s live in the US than here.

They water pump to front cover bolts should be M6 x 25 and M8 x 25. The other bolts that go through & into the block are imperial 5/16 UNC.

In general anything direct to the block is "probably" imperial, and external stuff modified by LR is metric, but always check. If a clean bolt or nut will not go all the way finger tight, then it's probably the wrong one !!
