90 TD5 - space saver wheels - advice appreciated!

Hello all, long time lurker here, first time post!

I'd like to store my 2004 Defender 90 TD5 in a garage this winter whilst not in use, however the garage roof is too low to drive it in. It would fit if I was able to reduce the height by (about) 4 or 5 inches.

Its currently running on 16" Boost alloys with chunky General Grabber tyres - so this combo is adding quite a bit of height to the car overall.

I had the idea of potentially putting it onto a space saver tyre (or equivalent). I tried searching for these online (the bolt pattern is 5 x 165mm) - but having difficulty finding something suitable.

Can anyone advise on a wheel/tyre combo that might be suitable please? I need the ability to move it in and out the garage easily so some sort of small/temporary wheel would be ideal. The vehicle will never go over 2mph so doesn't need to be roadworthy - its just for storage.

Just get four steel rims and fit them without tyres, will do what you want very cheaply.

Two strips of old conveyor belting or similar would be good imo for grip and damage limitation?

Get some cheap landrover steel wheels and just fit with the lowest profile worn second hand tyres you can

other option might be to change your garage door from up and over to a roller shutter or barn door style.

Is it the door that’s the issue or the actual inner ceiling of the garage?

I think I have seen this before where someone said there's a trailer wheel with the same pcd as the land rover.

Defenders live for the winter .... they are good at it.

Thanks all for the advice! Some really great ideas here - steel wheels with 2nd hand worn (deflated) tyres will be ideal as I don't want to damage the garage floor with bare rims.

Such a simple solution, but just didn't cross my mind - so really appreciate the help guys - thankyou.

^^ this one. with some old carpet/convayor belt to protect the floor.
Or is you are insistent on having rubber fitted then get a set of 205's (original swb tyre size). These are very cheap as no one wants them.
