How to add an 2 inch lift to a p38?

Well. 2 years after initiating this post, most of which have been spent in some form of covid isolation, I am going for it and giving the old girl a 2” lift. Suffered an EAS failure last time out so i’m taking the opportunity to repair and replace. New dunlop air bags, pump, good service etc so while i’m about it - although it’s not me personally doing the work this time - adding the lift. I know that won’t meet with rapturous approval from some people that i really respect on here, but I don’t use her on the road other than to get from one lane or another, or, now I have moved to Dorset, on the farm!

Don't think Dunlop bags will take a 2" lift. The shocks will stop too much movement, probably. You need Arnott Gen 3 but they're pricey. Got mine off a guy in Scotland selling on Amazon. You'll need longer shocks, brake flexis, ABS sensor cable will need unclipping possibly extending. For what you're doing probably won't have to worry about the thingy ... at the back ... under the spare wheel. Thing that goes across to stop axle moving sideways. Bl**dy hell, got the word on the tip of my tongue. That thing, anyway.

Panhard rod? Think you need longer height sensor linkages as well.

As others have said, Dunlop probably will not take a 2" lift unless perhaps new mounts a fabricated.
Definitely the height sensor links will need extensions, plus the changes others have listed.

Best put a brick under each wheel and drive on top of them. A 2inch lift and only costs the price of the bricks.

did @300bhp/ton not do a really good write up of lifting?

I read yor first concern was diffing out, that's where the bigger wheels come into it and a body lift then comes along to allow the bigger tyres to run under the arches.
After and if you need more lift, then go for a suspension lift. That way you can repair the eas system and leave it standard and then see how you feel with better diff and fuel tank clearance

That was it. Yeah, stalled trying to remember what the panhard rod was called. Don't even recall drinking much.

I think he's on metal springs but he'd certainly be a good person to ask.

Certainly when I have gone out it is the ruts on the diff that are the biggest issue. That and unexpected soft areas where 1 corner vanishes down leaving you cocked in the air with no go - that's where the winch is needed!

Spot on Mark. That is the plan. I will of course share the success or failure. I am preparing my self for a suitable round ‘told you so’ in the near future!

That looks like a nice bit of kit.

If the goal is to enable bigger tyres to raise the diif, how do you deal with the speedo issue?

You folks do know that the P38 has an extended mode that comes into play when the car thinks it is beached? That means there is additional height available from the air springs above what the high setting gives you. I just used the free EAS unlock software to reset my high setting to give the equivalent of extended mode which is pretty high. OK, I might have an issue if I ever get beached but not too likely where I drive (not into ruts often). I think the bottom of my fender/wing lip is 35 inches above ground IIRC. I have 31 inch KO2 tires and have no rubbing. May try to add more height but so far no problem following Defenders.

The answer is an App like Digihud on your Android phone/tablet which will give you accurate speed via GPS. Used it for ages when the speedo on my Transit packed up.
