Hi,
First up please: What metal are the rocker covers made of?
When new, were they painted or coated?
What's the best way to strip old coating and get them looking good?
Are the ones from Rimmer Bros any good?

Aluminium... you could use ali cleaner, or I think i just rubbed mine down with emery paper - and then applied black hammerite. Still looks good two years later. The ones on my defender (4L) were painted from new - the RR (4.6L )I don't know, but they're painted now
 
If it’s any consolation the aluminum rocker covers have the same dimensions on the GEMS and Thor engines. The only difference is the oil filler spout is shorter on the GEMS.
